Overview

A growing financial institution is seeking an experienced Commercial Portfolio Manager to support its Commercial Lending team in underwriting, credit analysis, portfolio management, and ongoing relationship support.

This role partners closely with Relationship Managers and Business Development Officers to evaluate new lending opportunities, monitor an existing portfolio of commercial relationships, and ensure sound credit quality throughout the life of each loan. The ideal candidate combines strong financial analysis skills with a deep understanding of commercial lending, credit risk, and portfolio management.

This is an excellent opportunity for a banking professional looking to work on complex commercial credits while collaborating with lenders, credit officers, and executive leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Credit Analysis & Underwriting

  • Perform financial analysis, due diligence, and underwriting for new commercial loan requests, renewals, modifications, and amendments.
  • Prepare and support credit approval packages and recommendations in accordance with established lending policies.
  • Analyze borrower and guarantor financial statements, tax returns, cash flow, collateral, and industry trends to assess creditworthiness.
  • Review third-party reports, appraisals, construction budgets, inspections, and other due diligence materials supporting credit decisions.

Portfolio Management & Risk Monitoring

  • Manage an assigned portfolio of commercial lending relationships by monitoring credit quality, covenant compliance, and overall risk exposure.
  • Prepare annual and periodic portfolio reviews, including borrower performance assessments and risk rating updates.
  • Monitor loan maturities, financial reporting requirements, borrowing bases, collateral exceptions, and other ongoing portfolio obligations.
  • Identify emerging credit risks and recommend appropriate mitigation strategies.

Relationship & Deal Support

  • Partner with Relationship Managers and Business Development Officers to evaluate prospective lending opportunities and support client relationship management.
  • Participate in client meetings and due diligence discussions to gain a comprehensive understanding of borrower operations and financing needs.
  • Coordinate with Loan Operations, Credit Administration, Treasury Management, Legal, and other internal stakeholders to facilitate transactions and ongoing servicing.
  • Assist in resolving documentation exceptions and ensure loan files remain complete and compliant.

Credit Administration & Compliance

  • Review loan documentation and collaborate with legal counsel on transaction structure and documentation requirements.
  • Ensure adherence to internal credit policies, regulatory guidelines, and risk management standards.
  • Support internal audits, credit reviews, and regulatory examinations by providing timely documentation and analysis.
  • Participate in special projects and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the lending organization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • 5 years of experience in commercial credit analysis, underwriting, portfolio management, commercial lending, or relationship management within a banking environment.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial and industrial (C&I) lending, commercial real estate (CRE), and middle-market credit structures.
  • Experience analyzing business financial statements, tax returns, cash flow, collateral, and borrower risk profiles.
  • Understanding of commercial loan documentation, covenant monitoring, collateral perfection, and credit administration processes.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact confidently with internal stakeholders and clients.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and commercial banking systems.


Salary : $100,000 - $130,000
