What are the responsibilities and job description for the OTR Class A CDL Driver | Solo or Mentor Opportunities position at ASB Freight Co.?
Class A CDL drivers within 90 miles of Raleigh, NC are invited to apply for our OTR fleet. Drivers can choose between a traditional solo driving position or pursue our Driver Mentor program for additional earning opportunities. Experienced drivers can choose between solo driving OR becoming a mentor.
We also welcome new CDL holders who need to complete their initial over-the-road training.
Solo Driver Opportunity
Solo drivers operate OTR routes with consistent freight and 100% no-touch loads.
Drivers can expect:
- Approximately 10-14 days out
- Home time between trips
- No-touch freight
- Consistent OTR miles
- Late-model equipment
- Year-round freight
- Weekly pay
Solo Driver Pay
Experienced drivers earn between $0.45–$0.55 CPM, based on qualifying experience.
Additional performance and mileage incentives may also be available.
Interested in Becoming a Driver Mentor?
Experienced drivers who enjoy helping newer CDL holders develop their skills can choose to participate in our OTR Mentor program.
Mentors work one-on-one with student drivers during their required OTR training and receive additional compensation for taking on the training role.
A typical mentor assignment consists of approximately 11 days OTR, including one observation day followed by 10 qualifying training days.
Mentors may choose to take home time or return to solo driving between student assignments.
Mentor Pay & Incentives
Mentors receive:
- Base pay of $0.45–$0.55 CPM, based on experience
- Additional $0.10 CPM mentor pay
- Up to an additional $0.10 CPM productivity incentive
- Additional bonus opportunities may be available
- Priority mileage opportunities during training assignments
- Weekly pay
Mentors are provided structured training guidelines and online checklists to help guide students through the program.
New CDL Holders Welcome
Recently earned your Class A CDL? You are encouraged to apply.
New drivers receive training followed by OTR experience with an experienced Driver Mentor. Drivers with less than three months of qualifying experience start at $0.35 CPM while completing training and building their first three months of experience.
After reaching three months of qualifying experience, drivers may transition to the applicable experienced solo pay range of $0.45–$0.55 CPM, based on experience and applicable qualifications.
Minimum Requirements
- Valid Class A CDL
- Must live within 90 miles of Raleigh, NC
- Must be at least 21 years old
- Must meet DOT and company qualification requirements
- Must be authorized to work in the United States
Experienced applicants: Minimum 3 months of recent, verifiable tractor-trailer experience for the experienced Solo/Mentor positions.
New CDL holders: Training opportunities are available for applicants who have not yet accumulated three months of experience.
