The CNM Will Function In The Following Role
- To provide prenatal, intrapartum and postpartum care for healthy obstetric patients.
- To interact with the Obstetric physicians to facilitate care of midwifery service patients requiring cesarean section or other interventions.
- To provide newborn care following delivery and until 28 days post-delivery to well newborns.
- To provide preventive well-woman exams, including pap smears and breast exams, and contraception on an outpatient basis.
Education
- Graduate from an RN School of Nursing is required
- MSN with graduation from a Certified Nurse Midwifery program is required
- 2-3 years in an obstetrical office practice as either a Women’s Health Practitioner or Certified Nurse Midwife is required
- Must have experience with new obstetrical office patient exam routines, return prenatal patient examination routines, charting, and documenting.
- Ability to perform uncomplicated vaginal deliveries is required
- Ability to assist at cesarean section deliveries as a first assistant is required
- Nurse Midwife Nurse Practitioner (NMNP) licensed by the Oregon State Board of Nursing (OSBN)
- Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) by the American Midwifery Certification Board
- Must obtain and maintain staff membership and appropriate privileges (i.e. ACLS, BLS, NRP, PALS, etc.)
- Must be eligible as a provider for Medicare, Medicaid, and other federal health programs
- Must meet all qualifications to participate in the hospital’s programs for professional malpractice and other liability coverage.
