Position Summary
The Nut Former Operator operates automatic nut forming machines equipped with five forming dies and automatic feeding mechanisms. The machine precisely shears wire to length and progressively forms metal into dies to produce special nut products.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate nut forming machines
- Cycle machines through settings and make necessary adjustments for timing and clearances between moving parts
- Position and secure heading wire onto the stock feeding mechanism
- Adjust tooling and transfer fingers at each forming station
- Start machines, observe operation, and inspect first‑run and sample parts to ensure conformance to specifications
- Inspect parts using micrometers, gauges, and other measuring instruments
- Read blueprints and job orders for dimensions, tolerances, quantities, and tooling requirements
- Perform record keeping, data entry, housekeeping, and follow all safety regulations
- Suggest process improvement ideas
- Use the 3‑pan system throughout production runs
- Evaluate and communicate machine conditions or concerns to maintenance and supervision
Education and/or Experience
- Working experience in a fastener manufacturing environment
- Working knowledge of nut forming machinery and procedures
- Ability to inspect parts using a variety of inspection instruments; knowledge of SPC preferred
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience
Skills and Abilities
- Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, angles, radius, ratios, and standard units of measurement
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and interpret written, oral, diagram, or schedule‑based instructions in a standardized manufacturing environment
