Overview
We are seeking an Executive Director to lead the Arts Council of Scotland County with passion, strategic insight, and a commitment to excellence.
Executive Director Job Description:
Board Relations
Execute the business of the Arts Council of Scotland County as determined by the Board of Directors.
Work closely with the Board chair to ensure the regular and timely convening of the Board and its Executive Committee. Maintain the meeting calendar and prepare the agenda and other meeting documents.
Provide timely information, advice, counsel, professional expertise, and staff support to the Board of Directors, and its committees, as pertains to the business and formal policies of the Arts Council.
Personnel & Administration
Hire, supervise, various vendors that provide support services to the Arts Council.
Facilitate transparent, timely communication and strategic collaboration among
the Board of Directors, develop policies and procedures for the Board, staff, and volunteers.
Ensure the procurement, supervision, and nurturance of volunteer staff members as needed to conduct the business of the Arts Council.
Assist in recruiting and training volunteers, including new Board members
Fundraising
Organize, develop, and coordinate an annual community and corporate fundraising program that meets the fundraising goals of the Arts Council. Coordinate with the Board the Annual Fund/Membership Drive to cultivate new members and funders; prepare annual grant requests and ensure compliance and regulatory requirements, research new fundraising methods and sources and submit grant applications consistent with the Arts Council goals and objectives, assist board with planning and implementing fundraising events
Maintain a consistent and active role in fundraising and donor and corporate relations.
Financial
Working with the board to, prepare, and interpret organizational budgets annually for Board approval
Administer the current budget, bookkeeping, and report budget variances regularly to the Board of Directors, recommending targeted adjustments as necessary.
Serve as liaison between the Board treasurer and the accountant.
Prepare financial reports for Board meetings.
Ensure effective audit trails and assist with the annual audit.
Strategic Planning
Develop and facilitate an active organizational strategic planning process that includes:
Coordinating the development of annual and long-range plans for the Arts Council of Scotland County.
Coordinating an annual planning retreat with the Board of Directors.
Updating and adjusting the strategic plan, through ongoing quarterly review with Board.
Programs and Services
Oversee the coordination of annual events, programs, and services.
Evaluate past, current, and potential programs and services to support the mission of the Arts Council and enhance their quality.
Provide information, advice, resources, professional expertise, and staff support to Board committee chairpersons and members who guide and support the provision of programs and services.
Provide information, advice, resources, professional expertise, and staff support to local and regional artists, arts organizations, and appropriate community organizations.
New Initiatives
Develop innovative initiatives that augment organizational resources and extend targeted programs/services through effective community partnerships.
Involve appropriate professional program staff and Board committees in developing new proposals.
Establish timeline, management plan, and proposed budget for Board review, amendment, and approval.
Marketing and Public Relations
Actively promote the Arts Councils programs, accomplishments, mission, goals, and objectives to existing, emerging, and potential constituencies.
Serve as the key liaison to community and regional leaders, community-based organizations, and the citizenry within the Arts Council of Scotland County’s service area
Facilitate the development of a strategic communications/marketing plan that effectively promotes and markets the Arts Council’s programs and services to targeted regional audiences through web-based, social and traditional media.
Develop and sustain working partnerships and cooperative relationships with peer organizations, as well as with active and potential funding organizations and agencies.
Develop and maintain positive relationship with local government and school officials, business leaders, civic groups, and arts patrons.
Advocacy
Represent the Arts Council in targeted, high priority advocacy efforts for arts funding on state, regional, and national levels.
Working with the Board, represent the Arts Council’s ongoing commitment to serve as a catalyst and convener in support of regionally focused, arts-driven economic and community development.
