PAY: $75,000-$95,000

Reports To: Reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Physician Director of Infusion

Supervision Exercised: Infusion staff including Assistant Manager, Team Leads, RNs, LPNs and Medical Assistants.

Position Summary:
Infusion Registered Nurse Manager at a busy multi-site Rheumatology Practice in Maryland, Virginia, and DC. This position is for an experienced RN with clinical and management experience.  Direct patient care is expected as well as administrative management of the department. Travel between sites is required.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Hire, onboard, supervise and continuously evaluate Infusion staff.
  • Develops, implements, and updates policies and procedures related to infusion medications and practices.
  • Evaluates safety protocols and modifies as needed.
  • Educates Infusion staff on ARA and ARISE rules, regulations, processes, and expectations.
  • Holds monthly staff meetings and quarterly team leader meetings.
  • Delegates clinical responsibilities to the Assistant Manager and  Team Leaders.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and other managers to develop ARISE business.
  • Collaborate with the marketing department and join marketing initiatives for outside referrals.
  • Communicates with Pharmaceutical Representatives for updated education and in-services on infusion medications.
  • Communicate with vendors (DME, Suppliers, etc.) as needed.
  • Carries forward strategic vision related to ARISE, as developed and instructed by Executive Committee.
  • Create and maintain reports for the infusion department, including productivity reports, incident reports, audits, and other reports requested by upper management.
  • Clinically supports Infusion staff at all sites, as needed.
  • Performs all Duties required of an Infusion Nurse:
  • Reviews patient chart to ensure that physician’s orders are up-to-date and insurance authorization has been obtained prior to patient arrival to office.
  • Obtains brief medical history, checks vital signs, reviews labs and reviews patients’ list of medications.
  • Provides infusion therapy in a safe and competent manner.
  • Monitors patients and promptly report changes in the patient’s condition or emergencies.
  • Inserts peripheral intravenous catheters, access implanted ports, administer injections, and performs phlebotomy, as needed.
  • Provides educational information to patients and patients’ families regarding biologic treatments. Instructs patients about biologic medications, mechanism of action, and potential side effects.
  • Schedules patients for infusion therapy and office visits, as needed.
  • Communicates with providers and other staff members, as appropriate.
  • Remains current with the policies mandated by both federal and local governments, Medicare/Medicaid programs, and other private health care programs regarding handling of laboratory work.
  • Performs related work as required.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor of Science in Nursing from a nationally accredited nursing program.
  • Certificate / License:
    • BLS Certification Required
    • Current RN license in DC, VA, MD (depending on location of hire)
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 5 years of direct patient care in an inpatient or outpatient setting, preferably critical care.
      • IV catheter insertion competency and infusion therapy experience preferred.
    • Minimum of 1-year direct management experience in a clinical setting.

 

  • Skills & Abilities:
    • Ability to effectively hire, train and manage Infusion staff across the practice.
    • Ability to work in a collaborative and cooperative manner with the physician director, COO, managing partners and executive committee of ARA.
  • Ability to manage conflict and problem solve.
  • Knowledge of indications of therapy, pharmacologic actions, interactions, side effects and monitoring of parameters. Understanding of drug calculations.
  • Proficiency in of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, etc).
  • Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions used to establish and maintain a safe work environment.
  • Knowledge of Infusion Nursing Standards of Practice developed by Infusion Nurses Society (INS) and adheres to the Standards of Practice.
  • Skilled in IV catheter insertion and implanted port care.
  • Skilled in obtaining and interpreting vital signs.
  • Skilled in maintaining clear and concise notes in the patient’s electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to examine documents for accuracy and thoroughness.
  • Skilled in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, other staff members, and the public.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in the department.
  • Ability to think critically in the clinical setting.
  • Participate in the development and general adherence of policies and procedures related to infusion therapy and nursing care within the department.
  • Work independently with off-site supervision.
  • Floating to all sites to cover staffing needs in the department.
  • Maintains current licensure and certifications necessary to perform duties and legally practice in the state(s) licensed.
  • Practices within the Scope of Practice as outlined by state of licensure.
  • Adheres to all ARA and ARISE Policies and Procedures.

  • In Office
  • Requires full range of motion including handling and lifting patients, manual dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires normal visual acuity and hearing.
  • Involves sitting, standing and walking for extended periods.
  • Requires exposure to bodily fluids.
  • Occasionally lift items weighing up to 50 pounds.
