What are the responsibilities and job description for the Digital Fabrication Specialist position at Artform | architectural fabrication?
The Opportunity: Build the Future of Architectural Fabrication
Artform is a design-driven architectural fabrication company focused on turning complex architectural concepts into manufacturable reality. We are not a commodity fabricator; we create the highly detailed, iconic elements that define buildings.
Our Digital Fabrication team operates at the intersection of manufacturing, BIM, automation, AI, and process engineering. We are looking for a self-driven technical leader to help build the systems, workflows, and production infrastructure that allow projects to move from design to the shop floor with exceptional efficiency and accuracy.
This is not a traditional drafting role. You will not be closing tickets in a silo. You will be a builder-minded technical expert empowered to solve ambiguous problems, improve operational systems, help guide technical workflows, and have a direct impact on how we build.
As our department continues to grow, we are looking for someone who can contribute not only through technical excellence, but also through leadership, mentorship, and continuous improvement.
**Who We Are**
Founded in 2006, Artform is a fully integrated architectural fabrication company specializing in architectural metal facades, rainscreen systems, solar control systems, and public art. We use CNC-based technology and proprietary digital workflows—from laser scanning on-site to direct-to-fabrication output—to deliver products to exacting tolerances. Our in-house teams handle everything from design and engineering to fabrication and installation, guaranteeing quality and schedule reliability.
**What You’ll Do**
As a Digital Fabrication Specialist, you will be a key part of the technical engine that drives our production.
Translate Design to Production
- Develop detailed, fabrication-ready 3D models, shop drawings, and CNC-ready production data from architectural plans and point-cloud scans using Revit™, AutoCAD™, and other CAM platforms.
Own the Workflow
- Manage the flow of digital information from design and engineering (D20) through CNC programming (D30), material forming (D35), and fabrication (D40/D50).
Build & Automate
- Identify bottlenecks and automate repetitive tasks. Develop and deploy workflows using tools like Dynamo, Python (including our in-house "Screenwall Makr" application), and other scripting tools to improve efficiency and reduce errors.
Solve Real-World Problems
- Collaborate directly with project managers, shop floor leads, and field installers to resolve design challenges, ensure buildability, and adapt to changing field conditions. Your work will directly bridge the digital and physical worlds.
Develop Our Systems
- Contribute to the creation and maintenance of our operational infrastructure, including Revit standards, process documentation (SOPs), automation tools, and quality-control systems. You will actively shape the systems you work within.
Lead Through Influence
- Help establish best practices, mentor developing team members, and contribute to the continued growth and maturity of the D20 department. Leadership at Artform is measured by ownership, initiative, and the ability to elevate those around you.
**What We’re Looking For**
We are looking for a mindset, not just a list of skills.
Builder at Heart
- You think in terms of assembly, manufacturing logic, tolerances, and install sequencing. You have a natural curiosity for how things are made and how they can be made better.
- Enjoys Solving Ambiguous Problems
- You are comfortable with ambiguity and motivated to find the most practical and effective solution, not simply the first solution.
Systems Thinker
- You see the entire workflow and are constantly looking for ways to improve efficiency, repeatability, and process improvement.
Collaborative Leader
- You communicate effectively with architects, engineers, project managers, and fabricators on the shop floor. You ask great questions, share knowledge freely, and help make the team around you better.
Self-Driven Learner
- You have a passion for technology and can teach yourself new tools and techniques to get the job done.
Ownership Mentality
- You take responsibility for outcomes, follow problems through to completion, and proactively seek opportunities to improve processes, systems, and team performance.
**Where you came from / who you are**
Artform hires in this position have been a diverse collection of architects, interior designers, engineers, tradeschool drafters and tradeschool skilled labor. Your formal education path does not matter as much as your experience and commitment to problem solving. Send us your best pitch about who you are and we will be eager listeners.
Core Qualifications:
- Strong proficiency in Autodesk Revit™ with experience modeling complex geometry and creating detailed drawing sets
- Experience with AutoCAD™
- Familiarity with CAM software (such as Enroute™) is a strong plus
- Knowledge of fabrication methods including metal forming, welding, CNC routing, and construction sequencing is highly valued
- Experience with Dynamo, Python, or other scripting and automation tools is a significant advantage
- Ability to think both technically and practically in a manufacturing environment
- Previous leadership, mentoring, project coordination, or workflow management experience is beneficial but not required
Why Artform?
The most compelling part of this role is simple: you will help build the operating system for the future of fabrication.
We are a fast-moving, entrepreneurial, and non-corporate team. We value direct communication, practical innovation, and an ownership mentality.
One of our greatest strengths is our willingness to let smart people shape the company. We do not hire technical experts to constrain them to maintenance and documentation. We hire them to experiment, innovate, modernize our operations, and help build the next generation of fabrication workflows.
If you are a driven problem solver who wants to see your work have a tangible impact every day—and wants the opportunity to grow into a key leadership role within a highly technical team—you will thrive at Artform.
