Artech is hiring a Fine Art Crater, a hands-on fabrication and art handling position that is well-suited to spatial thinkers and excellent builders. We welcome individuals from all backgrounds and industries to apply for this exciting position.
The Fine Art Crater reports to the Director of Production and works in a blended production team. This is a full-time position based in Tukwila, WA.
Responsibilities
· Implement packing plans to Artech standards.
· Create, modify, and execute packing design plans based on existing estimates.
· Instruct, train, and supervise new or temporary crew members while working in the department.
· Strictly adhere to Artech PPE and shop safety policies and protocols.
· Ensuring the safe handling, storage, and packing of all art and artifacts in the packing area and shop.
· Cleaning, maintenance, and organization of workspaces, shop, and packing areas.
· Completing and filing of job documentation, including packing slips, condition reports, receive/release forms, check requests, work orders, and Bills of Lading.
· Creating, modifying, and executing crate and packing design plans based on existing estimates.
· Ensuring accuracy of design plans and communicating plans to crew members involved in job execution.
· Instructing, training, and supervising new or temporary crew members while working in the department.
· Adhering to all Artech safety policies, including reporting all safety concerns to the department manager, ensuring all safety equipment and signage are in proper working order, and taking immediate action to correct or address safety issues.
· Maintaining the confidentiality of our clients and the work we do for them.
· Maintaining full compliance with U.S. Transportation Security Administration cargo screening requirements, including completing and filing all screening documentation and performing checks to maintain our Certified Cargo Screening Facility classification.
· Scheduling tool maintenance and repair, including ordering replacement parts and soliciting bids from contractors for maintenance and repairs to equipment.
· Cross train and support tne Display department as departmental workloads demand.
Required
· 2 years wood shop fabrication experience
· Ability to work under pressure and manage a variety of simultaneous operations
· Ability to work both independently and as part of a team with all levels of staff
· Work while standing for 8 hours
· Ability to stand, walk, squat, bend, kneel, crouch, twist, and reach overhead
· Ability to work independently, take initiative, and work well within a team
· Be able to lift and carry 75lbs
· Possess a valid Washington State Drivers’ License (or obtain one prior to hire)
· Pass a full background check
Preferred
· 2 years of art crating experience
· 2 years of art handling experience
· Ability to safely operate a forklift
· Knowledge of museum practices, archival materials, and art handling best practices

Pay: $28.00 - $32.00 per hour
