Introduction

ARServices is seeking a highly skilled and creative Graphic Design Specialist to support the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) Office of Communications. This role is ideal for talented designers with a strong portfolio in digital and social media content creation who are passionate about translating complex nuclear security topics into clear, compelling, and visually engaging materials. You will play a key role in elevating public understanding of NNSA's vital mission—securing and disposing of dangerous nuclear material, advancing nonproliferation, and maintaining the nuclear deterrent—through innovative visual storytelling for stakeholders, the press, expert communities, and the general public. This position supports high-level strategic communications and requires creativity, attention to detail, and adherence to federal branding standards.

Position Description

The Graphic Design Specialist will develop and execute compelling digital and social media visual strategies, design a wide range of multimedia assets, maintain consistent brand identity across channels, and collaborate closely with communications strategists to ensure all visual content effectively conveys NNSA's mission priorities, policies, and achievements while adhering to government regulations and best practices in public affairs.

Location & Travel:

This is a full-time position based in Washington, DC or Germantown, MD, with minimal travel expected.

A qualified candidate will perform the following duties and responsibilities, but are not limited to:

  • Design and produce a wide range of visual materials for digital and social media platforms, including graphics, infographics, animations, presentations, videos, and web content.
  • Collaborate with communications strategists, public affairs officers, and subject matter experts to translate complex technical and policy information into clear, impactful, and visually appealing designs.
  • Develop and maintain a consistent visual brand identity for NNSA across all digital communication channels, ensuring alignment with agency guidelines.
  • Create and manage internal and external branding documents, templates, style guides, and design assets.
  • Produce engaging multimedia content to support digital campaigns, public outreach initiatives, leadership messaging, and crisis communications.
  • Stay current on graphic design trends, tools, software advancements, and best practices, particularly in government communications and digital strategy.
  • Manage multiple design projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines while maintaining high quality and brand consistency.
  • Provide creative input and recommendations to enhance NNSA’s digital presence, social media engagement, and overall public understanding of the agency’s mission.
  • Ensure all visual communications comply with NNSA branding guidelines, accessibility standards (Section 508), and relevant federal regulations and policies.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Security Clearance Requirement: Ability to obtain and maintain an active DOE “Q” or eligible to receive a security clearance.

Required Qualifications

  • Proven professional experience in graphic design with a strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in digital and social media content creation.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard design software, including Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects) and related tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement successful visual strategies for digital and social media platforms.
  • Strong understanding of communication principles and how design enhances messaging effectiveness.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and project management skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage competing priorities with attention to detail.

Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge of NNSA’s mission, nuclear security programs, or prior experience in government communications or public affairs.
  • Experience creating accessible digital content compliant with Section 508 standards.
  • Familiarity with social media analytics tools and best practices for government agencies.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, Fine Arts, or a related field.
