Senior Manufacturing Diagnostic Engineer

Arm
Austin, TX Full Time
POSTED ON 10/3/2025
AVAILABLE BEFORE 11/9/2025
We’re hiring a Senior Manufacturing Diagnostics Engineer to lead the end-to-end diagnostic test strategy for our rack-scale hardware (server/storage/network/power subsystems). Work hands-on with global ODM manufacturers to design for testability, stand up and audit factory test programs, and ensure every unit that ships meets exacting quality and reliability goals. This role is ideal for someone who is systems-minded, data-driven, and relentlessly focused on end-product quality!

What you’ll do

  • Lead the diagnostic strategy for rack architecture across module-, node-, and system-level test (board → node → rack), including coverage goals, pass/fail criteria, and escape-rate targets.
  • Audit and assess manufacturing test programs at ODMs/CMs: review test plans, fixtures, scripts, coverage reports, false-fail/escape rates, Gage R&R/MSA, and process controls; drive corrective actions and timelines.
  • Define required test infrastructure and ensure it is brought online and qualified for L6, L10 and L11 Integration.
  • Lead factory readiness: golden unit definition, fixture qualifications, GR&R, station release, and first-article/line-bring-up at ODM sites.
  • Drive quality rigor: establish control plans, yields, DPPM targets, Pareto/FRACAS, 8D/RCCA; partner with SQE, NPI, and reliability on HALT/HASS/ORT.
  • Continuously improve test time, stability, and coverage; reduce escapes and no-trouble-found (NTF) via analytics and feedback from field returns/RMA.
  • Collaborate multi-functionally with Hardware, Firmware, Platform, Reliability, Supply Chain, and Operations to land scalable, cost-effective test solutions.
  • Document and train ODM/CM teams on procedures, diagnostics, station maintenance, and change control.

What You’ll Bring (required)

  • BS/MS in Electrical, Computer, or Manufacturing Engineering (or equivalent practical experience).
  • 7 years designing and deploying manufacturing diagnostics or ATE for complex electronics; at least 3 years with rack/server or high-density compute systems.
  • Shown experience working directly with ODM manufacturers in Asia and/or North America, including on-site factory support and audits.
  • Deep understanding of manufacturing test methods: ICT, AOI/SPI, boundary-scan/JTAG, FVT/SLT, burn-in/ESS, GR&R/MSA, SPC, PFMEA/control plans.
  • Hands-on ability to develop, debug, and automate diagnostics (Python and one of: C/C /TCL/bash; Windows/Linux).
  • Strong knowledge of platform interfaces and protocols: PCIe, NVMe, I²C/SMBus/PMBus, Ethernet, sensors/telemetry, BMC/IPMI/Redfish, BIOS/UEFI.
  • Experience specifying/qualifying fixtures and instrumentation (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, load banks, power analyzers, traffic generators, environmental chambers).
  • Demonstrated track record reducing test escapes and improving yield/time-to-isolation through data analysis (SQL/pandas or equivalent).
  • Excellent communication and vendor-management skills; able to lead technical reviews and drive corrective actions with vitality.
  • Focus on end product quality and customer experience.

Nice to have

  • Experience with rack-scale orchestration of tests (e.g., node provisioning, BMC scripting, fleet-level runners).
  • Background in DfX for high-speed digital, power delivery, or thermal design.
  • Security/TCC/firmware signing flows in manufacturing.

Work style & travel

  • Role partners closely with overseas ODMs; ~20–30% travel expected for bring-ups, audits, and partner concerns.
  • On-site lab work required for fixture debug and system-level testing.
