Bachelor’s Degree, with Master’s Degree preferred

MA Certification in Speech and Language

Job Goal

To deliver a variety of services in speech and language and complete assessments

for the purpose of educational planning.

Performance Responsibilities

  • Provide therapeutic services to high school students in the Compass Program, a specialized program for students with cognitive delays, through individual and/or group service delivery models.
  • Perform initial/re-evaluations and implement treatment plans based on student needs, educational impact, and transition goals.
  • Lead social cognition, social communication, and pragmatic language groups designed to develop students' social thinking, self-awareness, perspective-taking, executive functioning, self-advocacy, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Collaborate with special education teachers, general education teachers, counselors, related service providers, job coaches, families, and other school staff to integrate communication goals within students' educational, vocational, and community-based programs.
  • Provide ongoing consultation and programmatic support to the Compass Team regarding social cognition, communication strategies, functional communication, transition planning, community access, and interventions that promote student independence and post-secondary success.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, IEP meetings, parent conferences, transition planning meetings, and Compass Program planning meetings.
  • Responsible for evaluation reporting, goal development, progress monitoring, and serving as a liaison regarding speech-language and social communication services within students' IEPs.
  • Support inclusionary practices and provide services across school, vocational, and community-based settings as appropriate.
  • Maintain thorough and accurate records related to evaluations, service delivery, consultation activities, progress monitoring, and compliance requirements.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of program-wide initiatives that promote communication, social competency, self-determination, independent living skills, and successful transition outcomes for students with cognitive delays.
