What are the responsibilities and job description for the Specialist - Multidisciplinary Student Support position at Arlington Independent School District?
ROLE AND PURPOSE:
The Multidisciplinary Student Support Specialist will assist the Multidisciplinary Student Support Coordinator, working alongside the Multidisciplinary Threat Assessment Team (MTAT). The Specialist is responsible for implementing directed aspects of the MTAT including the AISD response to students identified by the team, implementing systems for assessing their potential of engaging in violence or other harmful activities, and identifying intervention strategies to manage that risk. The Specialist is responsible for documenting and reporting to the coordinator all associated programmatic activities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor's Degree Required, Master's Degree from accredited institution preferred
- License or certification in Counseling, Social Work, Law Enforcement or other related field preferred
- High School Diploma/GED from an accredited institution, required.
Experience:
- Two years' experience in responding to, coordinating, or providing mental health supports and services for clients
- Previous work in a school, clinic, law enforcement or other field setting required
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
- Demonstrated excellent communication and interpersonal skills with individuals and groups
- Demonstrated ability to stay calm and focused in dealing with crises
- Knowledge of and familiarity with law enforcement and/or mental health support systems
- Familiarity with school district student support systems
- Proficient in software applications such as Microsoft Office (Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Suite (Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Drive)
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and plan and schedule priorities accordingly
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
I. INSTRUCTIONAL MANAGEMENT:
- Assist the coordinator in the creation and provision of professional development related to student threat assessment and management
- Collaborate with campus threat assessment team members to ensure consistency in threat assessments and use of subsequent data to develop campus systems of prevention
II. SCHOOL/ORGANIZATION CLIMATE:
- Promote an empathetic approach to serving students of concern and the campus communities
- Exhibit honesty, integrity, dependability, competence, and professionalism in the performance of duties and responsibilities
III. SCHOOL/ORGANIZATION IMPROVEMENT:
- Collaborate with campuses to ensure creation of targeted safety plans for identified students.
- Monitor the implementation of intervention plans for students with active threat assessments Assist the coordinator in the creation and provision of professional development related to student threat assessment and management
- Work to align supports to classroom, campus, and district goals for student learning using data to monitor and measure its effects on performance and school safety
IV. ADMINISTRATION AND FISCAL/FACILITIES MANAGEMENT:
- Comply with all regulations and procedures regarding fiscal management
- Monitor use of the district threat assessment management software/application.
V. SCHOOL/COMMUNITY RELATIONS:
- Promote a positive image of the district and maintain a positive working relationship with parents, school district staff, and community organizations
- Adhere to confidentiality laws in the conduct of district business Comply with all regulations and procedures regarding fiscal management
VI. STUDENT MANAGEMENT:
- Collaborate with district and campus teams and personnel, parents and community agencies, for the provision of direct student supports for overall safety
- Assist in the seamless student transitions from mental health and/or other institutions to Arlington ISD schools
VII. PROFESSIONAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT:
- Seek, accept, and respond to coaching and feedback from supervisor, staff, and peers
- Maintain a network of professional colleagues, membership in professional associations, attendance at relevant conferences, and exposure to current field related research
VIII. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist Coordinator in overseeing the implementation of district threat assessment system/application for violent and identified high concern students.
IX. WORKING CONDITIONS:
