The Arlington County Treasurer’s Office Compliance Division is seeking a Lien Coordinator . This position is a problem-solver in tax enforcement and will research accounts, collect delinquent payments, issue liens and garnishments, manage file transfers, analyze data, and prepare and review statistical reports. The position requires significant interaction with the public, meeting with taxpayers, handling incoming calls, and initiating various types of enforcement action. Successful applicants must be goal-oriented, technically astute, resourceful, and innovative, possess excellent oral and written communication skills, and have the ability to work with moderate oversight. Due to the sensitive nature of the information handled, attention to detail, discretion, and good judgment are essential.
Specific duties include:
- Coordinating liens and garnishments by identifying accounts ready for enforcement, issuing Treasurer liens, following up on liens, and processing lien payments;
- Providing excellent customer service by responding to inquiries in person, by phone, and via email, while handling stressful customer interactions with empathy and professionalism;
- Identifying solutions for customer problems and assisting with the collection of delinquent accounts;
- Troubleshooting lien file transfers and data issues, and following up on liens issued with no response;
- Preparing, analyzing, and maintaining accurate statistical and ad-hoc reports to support enforcement activities;
- Cross-training in other areas of the Enforcement team and representing the Compliance Division on special projects;
- Responding to inquiries from citizens, other County agencies, and staff, and supporting customer transactions by occasionally operating a cashier window as scheduled; and
- Assisting division management and performing additional duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate will possess effective verbal and written communication skills, self-motivation, critical-thinking skills, coachability, and the ability to remain professional and calm in a high-volume, fast-paced customer service environment. This position requires the ability to identify and prioritize the tasks necessary to meet long- and short-term objectives, as well as effective time management and multitasking skills to achieve these objectives. The candidate must be adept with technology and with using multiple complex systems at the same time, while eliciting, understanding, and advocating for customer needs.
Minimum:
- High School Diploma/GED or equivalent; and
- Considerable experience in collections, law enforcement, and/or public administration.
Substitution: Additional education may be substituted for experience.
Desirable: Preference may be given to candidates with significant experience in one or more of the following:
- Experience interacting with the public in a professional setting;
- Working with complex software systems and file transfer; and/or Bilingual ability in Spanish/English.
Special Requirements
Background Check: A pre-employment criminal records check will be conducted. It will include checks of the following: criminal record, driving record, education, professional licensure, and credit history. You will be required to sign a release authorizing the County to obtain your background information.
Additional Information
Work Hours: This is not a remote opportunity, and employees are expected to be in the office full time. Normal office hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
