Overview:

The Data Governance Lead is responsible for defining, implementing, and managing enterprise-wide data governance frameworks, policies, and standards. The role ensures data quality, compliance, security, and consistency across systems while partnering with business, IT, and data teams to establish a trusted data environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Data Governance Strategy & Framework

• Develop and implement the organization’s data governance strategy, policies, and standards.
• Establish enterprise-wide data governance frameworks, including ownership, stewardship, accountability models, and metadata standards.
• Drive adoption of data governance tools and best practices across business units.

Data Quality & Controls

• Lead data quality programs, including rules, profiling, monitoring, and remediation plans.
• Implement data controls and ensure compliance with data accuracy, completeness, and integrity.
• Work with engineering teams to embed data quality checks into pipelines.

Data Cataloging & Metadata Management

• Build and maintain enterprise data catalog, lineage, and metadata repositories.
• Collaborate with platform teams to ensure business glossary, data definitions, and classifications remain up-to-date.

Master & Reference Data Management

• Lead efforts around Master Data Management (MDM) and reference data standardization.
• Define rules, match/merge logic, and stewardship workflows.

Data Security, Privacy & Compliance

• Ensure compliance with regulatory frameworks such as GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, SOX, etc.
• Collaborate with security teams on data classification, access management, and retention policies.
• Establish guardrails for sensitive, confidential, and regulated data.

Stakeholder Collaboration & Leadership

• Act as a bridge between business, engineering, analytics, security, and compliance teams.
• Lead data governance councils, working groups, and decision forums.
• Educate stakeholders and drive organizational awareness around data governance.

Tooling & Technology

• Hands-on experience with data governance platforms such as:
• Collibra, Informatica Axon/EDC, Alation, Atlan, Microsoft Purview, Talend DQ.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP), data lakehouses (Databricks, Snowflake), and ETL tools.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• 8–12 yrs experience in data governance, data management, data quality, metadata, or MDM.
• Strong understanding of data modeling, data architecture, lineage, and BI/analytics ecosystems.
• Experience leading enterprise-level governance initiatives.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience with governance tools like Collibra, Purview, Alation, Informatica, etc.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior experience in financial services, healthcare, retail, or government domains.
• Certifications in Collibra, DAMA CDMP, Azure/AWS/GCP Data.
• Strong knowledge of data engineering concepts (ETL, Data Lake, Data Warehouse, RDBMS).
