Specimen Collection & Patient Care
- Perform venipunctures, skin punctures, blood cultures, and therapeutic phlebotomies accurately and efficiently
- Ensure minimal patient discomfort while maintaining high standards of care
- Verify patient identity using two approved patient identifiers prior to specimen collection
- Label specimens at the bedside and ensure accurate documentation of all collections
Safety & Compliance
- Follow Standard Precautions and infection control guidelines at all times
- Properly dispose of sharps in designated containers (no recapping of needles)
- Maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked work and draw area
- Recognize and report medical errors while prioritizing patient safety
Workflow & Efficiency
- Prioritize and complete work efficiently, including STAT, urgent, routine, and outpatient orders
- Perform duties with minimal supervision while maintaining accuracy and timeliness
- Order and maintain adequate supplies for phlebotomy operations
Communication & Teamwork
- Communicate professionally and courteously with patients, nursing staff, physicians, and coworkers
- Answer phones and perform clerical tasks as needed
- Demonstrate a strong team approach and support departmental goals
- Seek guidance when necessary and contribute to a collaborative work environment
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Completion of a Phlebotomy training program or relevant experience
- Phlebotomy certification, Medical Assistant, LPN or certification
