The ideal DSP will provide patient, respectful support while encouraging independence and community involvement. Support includes assisting with transportation, mobility, and daily living skills while allowing him the time and encouragement he needs to make decisions and reach his personal goals. He responds best to calm communication, clear explanations, and supportive relationships built on trust and respect.
What You’ll Need to Succeed (Qualifications)
- Age: Must be 18 years or older.
- Education: High school diploma, GED, or 1 year of relevant experience.
- Clearances: Ability to pass all required background checks and screenings.
- Mobility: A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (essential for community outings).
- Flexibility: Willingness to work weekends or fill-in shifts as needed.
Working Conditions
- Work is performed in the individual's home, community settings, and agency sites.
- Position requires standing, walking, driving, and assisting with personal care.
- May involve physical tasks, lifting, or utilizing mobility-facilitating equipment.
