COMMUNITY EDUCATOR

Early Childhood Mental Health (0–5) & Teen Outreach Program (TOP)

AZYP is seeking a passionate, community-minded Community Educator to deliver two evidence-based prevention programs across Pima County: the Early Childhood Mental Health Cohorts program, serving low-income families with children ages 0–5, and Wyman's Teen Outreach Program (TOP), a nationally recognized positive youth development curriculum for middle and high school students. This role is central to AZYP's mission of mobilizing communities to build solid foundations for youth and families, and requires certification (or willingness to become certified) in Zero to Three's The Growing Brain curriculum and Family Peer Support Across the Lifespan.

Early Childhood Mental Health Program (Ages 0–5)

• Facilitate seven 8-week cohorts annually using Zero to Three's The Growing Brain evidence-based curriculum, paired with Family Peer Support Across the Lifespan concepts, serving approximately 30 youth ages 0–5 and their parents/caregivers each program year.
• Lead child-focused activities that build early brain development, emotional regulation, and socialization skills alongside caregiver peer support groups that build resilience, coping strategies, and mutual encouragement.
• Recruit and engage low-income families through partnerships with family resource centers, pediatric clinics, WIC sites, Early Head Start, and early learning programs in high-poverty Tucson neighborhoods.
• Offer sessions during daytime and evening hours to accommodate working parents and caregivers.
• Administer pre-/post-cohort surveys and demographic questionnaires; track attendance, completion rates, and outcomes.
• Coordinate warm-handoff referrals to community partners (behavioral health, developmental screenings, family support services) and invite guest presenters into cohort sessions as appropriate.
• Maintain accurate documentation, facilitator notes, and program records to support quarterly reporting and grant compliance.

Teen Outreach Program (TOP)

• Facilitate Wyman's Teen Outreach Program curriculum with fidelity, delivering weekly, evidence-based life-skills sessions to middle and high school students.
• Guide youth through curriculum lessons on goal-setting, decision-making, healthy relationships, and self-management, fostering positive youth development and long-term life skills.
• Coordinate and supervise youth-led Community Service Learning (CSL) projects that connect classroom lessons to real-world civic engagement.
• Build trusting, consistent relationships with students, school staff, and site partners to support recruitment, retention, and program fidelity.
• Track attendance, program dosage, and outcome measures required by Wyman's national evaluation model and AZYP reporting standards.
• Represent AZYP professionally at partner school sites and community events, reinforcing AZYP's role as a trusted youth development provider.

Shared / Cross-Program Responsibilities

• Participate in required trainings and certifications, including The Growing Brain, Family Peer Support Across the Lifespan, and Wyman's TOP facilitator training.
• Represent AZYP at community outreach events, tabling, and presentations to promote both programs.
• Maintain a current, well-organized resource bank for referrals to housing, food, health, and mental health services.
• Submit timely, accurate program data, attendance records, and narrative updates to support agency reporting and grant deliverables.
• Uphold AZYP's mission, values, and voice in all community-facing work — professional, kind, personable, and passionate about mobilizing communities toward solid foundations for youth and families.
• Other tasks as assigned by supervision.

• Bachelor's degree in early childhood education, social work, psychology, public health, or a related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience working directly with young children (ages 0–5) and/or adolescents in an educational, clinical, or community setting.
• Willingness and ability to become certified as a trainer in Zero to Three's The Growing Brain curriculum, Family Peer Support Across the Lifespan, and Wyman's TOP facilitator model (training provided).
• Strong public speaking, group facilitation, and relationship-building skills with both children and adults.
• Comfort working across two distinct age groups and program models, with flexibility to manage a varied weekly schedule.
• Cultural humility and experience serving low-income, underserved, and diverse communities.
• Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred.
• Reliable transportation, valid Arizona driver's license, and ability to travel between community sites in Pima County.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Fingerprint Clearance Card and pass required background checks.
• Ability to obtain and maintain automobile insurance including $100,000/$300,000 Bodily/Medical Liability coverage.
• Proficiency with basic data collection tools (paper and digital surveys, attendance tracking) and Microsoft Office.

• Ability to sit, stand, kneel, and engage on the floor with young children for extended periods.
• Ability to lift and carry program materials/supplies (up to 25 lbs).
• Regular local travel between community sites, schools, clinics, and family resource centers throughout Pima County.
• Occasional evening and weekend availability required to meet family and school schedules.

Salary : $19
