PT - Instructor, Fire Science
Salary:
$26.89 per hour
Summary of Function:
Teaches Firefighters I & II, Haz-Mat Awareness & Operation skills, and lectures for the Fire Programs, ensuring instruction adheres to all applicable regulating agencies and guidelines.
Typical Duties:
- Serves Students. Teach emergency services courses as assigned and oversee the daily program operations including project management and assigning reinforcement learning activities for students.
- Sets up and break down equipment for use during practical skills training. Teach skills in accordance with the educational standards and the course syllabi, through both lectures and practical hands-on education. Courses may include theory, practical application, skills training, or live scenarios.
- Supports Fire Programs leadership by coordinating regular program reviews to ensure effectiveness and alignment with the college mission and values as well as the community workforce needs.
- Identifies student-learning outcomes, develop processes and tools for assessment, and incorporate student data to modify instructional materials. Design, develop and update program curriculum as assigned.
- Promotes emergency services programs through local, regional, and national partners. Serve on local and state committees as directed by Fire Programs leadership.
- Supports and participate in strategic initiatives and perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Certified Firefighter I & II
- Arizona Fire Instructor I
- Active firefighter with one year of experience as a full-time Firefighter or inactive with minimum 5 years of full-time active experience
- Certified and in good standing with National Registry or AZDHS as an EMT or Paramedic is preferred, but not required; documentation must be provided with application materials
- Arizona Fire Instructor II or Instructional Methodologies certified is preferred, but not required; documentation must be provided with application materials
Additional Eligibility Requirements:
- Arizona Driver’s License or Equivalent
- Successful candidate must successfully complete Arizona Fire Instructor II within two years of initial employment and submit certification

- Non-Exempt
Position Type & Work Schedule:
- Part-time
- Up to 19 hours per week; assignment time dependent upon institutional need
- Instructional days and times are dependent upon semester course schedule and institutional need
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of and ability to interpret, apply, and follow college policies and procedures
- Knowledge of and ability to effectively utilize instructional technologies and learning platforms including learning management system, classroom technology, Zoom, Firefighter training tools, and equipment
- Skill and ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
- Ability to complete all departmental and/or institutional mandatory training or development
- Ability to communicate timely and effectively with students, colleagues, administrators, and the general public
- Ability to teach and perform Firefighter I & II procedures
- Ability to teach and perform Firefighter I & II skills
- Ability to perform and demonstrate all course skill requirements i.e., tool hoisting
- Ability to be self-directed
- Ability to demonstrate integrity, professionalism, and civility in all job-related actions
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other department staff, faculty, students and the public
Work Environment:
- Inside classroom, lab, or office environment with normal noise and lighting levels
- Indoor or Outdoor instructional, lab or training area, applicable to content area
- Must be able to perform duties, instruction and training in a variety of conditions including but not limited to dark environments, exposure to loud noises, high temperatures, and variable weather conditions
Physical Demands:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Prolonged periods of standing and/or walking
- May lift, carry, push, and/or pull, at times a minimum of 50 pounds
- Stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and/or twist
- Must be able to navigate various departments of the organization's physical premises to support instructional or training needs
Travel:
- Required to travel different locations to provide instruction, training, and/or hands-on skills

Somerton/Cocopah Fire Department
Wellton Fire Department
Other locations as needed - Not Benefits Eligible
