Water Distribution Supervisor

JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Distribution Superintendent. the Distribution Supervisor supervises and assigns work to Utility Worker ("UW") IV, UW 111, UW 11 and UW l, and assists in the overall operation and maintenance of the I)istribution Department.

JOB DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Responsible for a variety of tasks and duties which include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Provide assistance in the resolution of daily departmental operational and maintenance problems.
• Investigate damages to distribution facilities, bill and collect from responsible parties, and maintain damage files.
• Prepare requests for ordering inventory replacement materials and materials required for new construction.
• Assist in evaluating potential new employees for hire, and existing reemployed for promotion, disciplinary and corrective action, and termination.  Assist in managing, training and evaluating departmental employees.
• Read and update water distribution system maps and as-built plans (record drawings).
• Assume the duties of the Distribution Superintendent during his/her absence.
• Subject to 24-hour on-call status.
• Other tasks and duties as required.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Skills, knowledge and physical requirements include, but are not limited to:

• Thorough knowledge and experience in departmental duties, as well as operating policies and procedures.
• Good knowledge of materials and company part numbers.
• Familiarity with American Water Works Association standard practices and sanitary procedures for disinfecting new main installations and repairs to mains.
• Familiarity with Arizona Administrative Code Title 1 8 Chapter 4.
• Thorough familiarity with safety practices and procedures, as well as OSHA requironents.  Good knowledgc of Bcst Management Practices in accordance with Arizona Pollution Discharge Elimination System
• Familiarity with traffic control procedures for performing work within the public right-ofW"d)'.
• Ability to assist in effectively supervising, motivating, training, and developing departmental employees, and to recognize job or employee problems and recommend solutions.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to interact with other supervisors and the public in a cooperative and professional
• Neat and presentable appearance.
• Must be dependable, punctual, and have good attendance.
• Ability to lift up to 45 pounds, and climb to a height of 40 féet.
• Ability to perform repetitive physical activities using feet, legs, hands, and arms, and including sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, grasp, lift, push, pull. climb, crouch, squat, crawl and twist.

EDUCATION. "TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

The following are required:

• I ligh school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid Arizona driver's license and acceptable driving record.
• ADEQ Grade 3 Water Distribution Operator certificate.
• Some college and/or industry-related education desirable.
