Knowledge Enterprise's Nanofabrication Core is seeking a Semiconductor Maintenance Engineer. The Semiconductor Maintenance Engineer reports to the Director of Operations in ASU’s semiconductor device processing facility in Tempe Arizona. The Semiconductor Maintenance Engineer will provide technical expertise in tool maintenance, tool capability enhancement, troubleshooting and the maintenance of nanofabrication equipment, especially focused on physical vapor deposition (sputtering, thermal/E-beam deposition), support for high-temperature vacuum furnaces, reactive ion etchers (RIE), metrology tools, and toxic and/or flammable gas delivery systems.
Essential Duties
The incumbent will work with NanoFab staff to implement and perform preventative maintenance programs on a wide variety of tools to improve equipment reliability and performance.
The incumbent will be in part responsible for the installation and commissioning of new equipment. Coordinate and interface with the equipment vendors for tool inspection, repair, preventative maintenance, and monitoring service contracts.
The incumbent will conduct user training. As well as preparing training materials, including SOPs and related documents.
The position requires a thorough understanding of the facility needs of the equipment (e.g., power, plumbing, exhaust, CDA, nitrogen, etc.) as well as the ability to troubleshoot and address issues that arise, often through hands-on disassembly of components.
The incumbent will work with NanoFab Staff to coordinate maintenance of general cleanroom facilities and support infrastructure (process chilled water, HVAC, electrical, toxic gas monitoring system, fire safety systems).
Work with University Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) for proper training and assistance during maintenance involving hazardous materials.
Prepare shipments of equipment for repairs.
The incumbent will work with NanoFab Staff and participate in some special user research projects to evaluate, design, expand, and maintain the equipment capability and process recipes.
Desired Qualifications
An associate or bachelor’s degree is required. A degree in a STEM field is preferred.
In lieu of degree, four years of experience related to process tool maintenance and support will be accepted.
Previous cleanroom experience.
Hands-on experience with maintenance and troubleshooting in the following areas required:
Knowledge in one or more semiconductor processing techniques including wet and dry etch, thin film deposition techniques, thermal processing, and/or lithography.
Outstanding customer-oriented communication skills and adoption of proactive approaches.
The candidate should be self-motivated with a strong desire to acquire on-the-job training, to succeed, and to develop intellectual and practical professional skills. Demonstrated ability to work well in teams is essential.
Working Environment
The incumbent must be able to work in a class100 cleanroom for extended periods wearing the proper cleanroom attire. The individual will work with and around semiconductor processing equipment, compressed gases, acids, solvents, vacuum pump oils, and other chemicals.
Days and Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00AM - 5:00PM. May involve working during off hours to handle emergency situations within the facility.

The microelectronics research is focused in five main cross-disciplinary efforts: bio and molecular electronics, low power electronics, materials and process fundamentals, molecular beam epitaxy and optoelectronics and nanostructures and quantum structures.
