Essential Duties
The ASU Police Department (ASUPD) is committed to our mission of fostering a safe, community-centered environment through engaged collaboration committed to dignity and respect. We are a full-service, 24/7 police department operating on the Tempe, Downtown Phoenix, West and Polytechnic campuses. We are dually accredited law enforcement agency through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), and the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA). ASU Police Department conducts a pre-employment background investigation consisting of: polygraph, medical, psychological, fingerprinting, Department of Motor Vehicle Check, and drug screening. This position is contingent upon successful completion of these checks.

Driving Requirement
This position may require driving. Employee must possess a valid US Driver’s license of the appropriate class and required endorsements throughout employment.

Essential Duties
- Patrols the campus community investigating suspicious activity or people.
- Patrols assigned areas on foot or by motor vehicle to control traffic, prevent or deter crime and arrest violators; issues warnings or citations to drivers when violations of motor vehicle laws are observed.
- Completes criminal and civil reports using a computer in a timely manner.
- Issues citations or warnings.
- Responds to emergency alarms and dispatched calls; makes sound decisions based on analysis of situation and facts.
- Testifies in court in response to subpoena as witness and/or reporting officer to crime.
- Investigates all types of crimes and accidents; performs follow up duties on crimes/accidents as directed by supervisor; interviews suspects and witnesses; collects evidence and facts;
- Comply with AZPOST, ASU, Police Department, and other required trainings.
- Demonstrate knowledge and application of Arizona Revised Statutes and constitutional law.
- Work within the parameters of ASU and Police Department policy.
- Evidence of a AZPOST Certification.
- Campus Law Enforcement experience.
- Evidence of a successful completion of field training program at prior agency.
- Continuous experience as a POST Certified Police Officer for at least one year.
- Evidence of being in good standing (cannot have been terminated or left a previous law enforcement position for misconduct as a result of disciplinary investigation).
- A prominent diverse urban University community serving students, staff, faculty, and visitors throughout 4 campus locations. ASUPD operates 24/7 with a compressed work week. ASUPD complies with the federal mandates of FERPA, CLERY, and TITLE IX.
