Job Description:

The School of Manufacturing Systems and Networks (MSN) is seeking a talented individual to join the team and support the advancement of critical research initiatives. MSN is helping to discover and solve innovative technical issues that are transforming the manufacturing industry. The Research Advancement Manager (RAM) will aid in promoting and advancing meaningful research and will be responsible for leading the research advancement team at MSN.


This position is responsible for integrating research support services within the school and is the primary contact for any significant pre- and post-award concerns. This role is responsible for supervising the MSN research advancement staff and directs the planning, training, and implementation of administrative and operational initiatives pertaining to research administration.


This is a higher-career track position with opportunities to increase complexity based on job performance.


Position Salary Range:

$66,000 - $82,000 per year; DOE


Essential Duties:

Leadership

  • Leads new administrative initiatives impacting research administration and compliance.
  • Provides research administration specific guidance to leadership including pre- and post-award activities, requests, policies, and practices.


Personnel Management/Supervision

  • Responsible for personnel actions in accordance with university polices.
  • Conduct employee reviews and make recommendations on promotions and annual merit increases.
  • Supervise and mentor pre and post award research advancement staff to verify that all MSN and established ASU research processes are properly implemented.


Workload in Pre-Award/Proposal/Contractual Support

  • Responsible for development, preparation, and submission of research proposals.
  • Administrative resource to investigators; provide guidance and counsel during development and proposal submission.
  • Assists with post submission action items requested by the sponsor such as just-in-time requests, revised budgets, scope of work changes, and additional certifications.


Communications

  • Communicates changes in policy/process and provide guidance to faculty and staff to ensure awareness and compliance.
  • Exercises the highest level of discretion in dealing with sensitive and/or confidential information concerning professional and personal issues.


Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and five years’ experience in any combination of the following areas: procurement (federal, state, or industrial), proposal submissions, contract negotiation, grant and contract administration and financial administration; which includes two years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience in taking initiative, diplomatic, proactive, effectively manages stressful situations.
  • Experience in work that requires attention to detail, organization, and time management.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate with researchers and non-financial stakeholders.
  • Evidence of strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret and apply complex regulations.
  • Evidence of supervision including leadership, team coordination, and performance building.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of policies, regulations, and strategies pertaining to proposal, grants, and contracts administration.
  • Experience in working with large groups of faculty in the pre- and post-award context and with a variety of sponsors in a high-volume, fast-paced environment that is subject to quickly changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Experience working across multiple disciplines, in transdisciplinary environment.
  • Experience working in higher education.
