The School of Life Sciences (SOLS) invites applications for one full-time, benefits-eligible, Instructional specialists with a tentative start date of August 2026. Subsequent fiscal year renewals are contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of resources, and the needs of the unit.
The Successful Candidates Support The School Of Life Sciences Teaching Laboratories (introductory Biology, Anatomy And Physiology, Introductory Microbiology, Etc.) By Teaching/instructing On-campus Immersion Laboratory Sections And Occasionally Online Courses
The successful candidates will be responsible for instructing/teaching laboratory sections primarily focused on BIO 181 and 182 utilizing Dreamscape Learn, but may also instruct BIO 201, BIO 202, MIC 206, and/or other instructional laboratories as assigned and depending on department needs.
Position Salary Range: $46,300 - $50,000; DOE
Essential Duties
Activities are performed in an office, lab setting and in the field subject to extended periods of field work, sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse, and standing for varying lengths of time. May be required to wear personal protective equipment before entering laboratories such as lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, closed toe shoes, and respirator. Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds. Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions. This position receives regular review of objectives by department administrator.

- The position of Instructional Specialist is a full-time position with work hours subject to the needs of the School of Life Sciences.
- Must be able to accommodate a flexible work schedule, including evenings as required. Assigned duties may vary semester-to-semester.

Essential Duties
- Instructs/teaches laboratory sections for BIO181 or BIO182, as assigned.
- Clearly communicate course requirements, means of evaluation, deadlines, and policies to students.
- Holds weekly student support hours.
- Guides students through lab exercises and grading assignments.
- Works closely with peers and immediate supervisor to determine and fulfill course needs.
- Adheres to/maintains support/assistance of the University’s laboratory safety program, as needed.
- Inform the supervisor of any service needs for the instructional laboratories.
- Inform the supervisor of any safety concerns for the instructional laboratories.
- Experience in a high work volume environment managing multiple tasks and priorities; recordkeeping; ensuring adherence with policies, practices, and regulations.
- Prior experience teaching in a biology classroom or laboratory.
- Experience in planning and establishing priorities.
- Experience in developing and maintaining cooperative working relationships both within and across organizational areas.
- Experience using Microsoft Office applications (i.e., Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook), and course management systems (i.e., Canvas)
- Evidence of effective communication skills.
- Evidence of a Master’s degree in biological sciences secondary education, or higher and post-secondary education.
- Evidence of a broad grasp of biology and experience in teaching and student mentoring. Ideally, applicants demonstrate experience and willingness to work as a team.
