What are the responsibilities and job description for the Faculty Associate in English position at Arizona State University?
The Department of English on the Tempe Campus at Arizona State University invites applications for the Faculty Associate positions to teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses, online and/or on-campus in: Creative Writing; English Education; Film and Media Studies; Linguistics and Applied Linguistics; Literature; Writing, and Rhetorics and Literacies. These positions are one semester appointments, part time, non-benefits eligible with no tenure implications. A typical Faculty Associate course load is one to two classes per semester. Teaching duties include: setting assignment deadlines, responding to and evaluating student work, and availability for one-on-one assistance (via weekly office hours for on-campus classes and electronically for online classes). Anticipated start date: Fall 2026, Spring 2027, Summer 2027 and Fall 2027.

Essential Functions
- Teach undergraduate and graduate students in Creative Writing; English Education; Film and Media Studies; Linguistics and Applied Linguistics; Literature; Writing, and Rhetorics and Literacies courses and other disciplinary areas as needed, including creating lesson plans, evaluation of student work, office hours, and other essential teaching functions
- Use Canvas for assessment of student work
- Participate in all unit and university assessment activities
- Master’s degree in relevant field by the time of appointment
- Evidence of effective teaching
- MFA or Ph.D. in relevant field by time of appointment
- Record of scholarly publication and/or evidence of professional development in relevant field
- Minimum of two years of post-secondary teaching experience
- Demonstrated commitment to working with faculty, staff, students and communities to advance the principles of the ASU Charter.
