A Day in the Life:

The Community Support Coordinator in addition to the Pet Resource Call Center is often times, the first team to learn that an individual is on the brink of crisis as they attempt to rehome or secure resources for their pet. The Community Support Coordinator, is a grant-funded role charged with helping pet parents navigate their pet and people problems, connecting them to resources, partner organizations and benefit programs. By removing barriers and connecting pet owners in crisis to resources that will help them address the root issue that is triggering the need to surrender their pet, we will not only keep that pet from entering the shelter, but preventing future relinquishment of a pet.

The Community Support Coordinator will need to be a highly skilled, customer focused professional with preferred experience working in the human service field, social work, sociology, psychology, human development, animal welfare, non-profit, or similar. They will work closely with the Pet Resource Center (PRC), our Foster Department, and AHS' Emergency Rescue team to provide support to pet owners in crisis.


Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree, or similar experience preferred.
  • Spanish bilingual preferred.
  • Experience working in the field of Human Service/case management, specifically with low-income populations, and/or heavy customer service or animal welfare management preferred.
  • Ability to perform mathematical skills, and extensive data tracking.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and Explorer; able to learn other software programs as necessary. Proficiency with or able to learn/use Chameleon software (for use with animals in a shelter environment).
  • Evaluate our temporary care program, Home Away From Home, clients for program eligibility and oversee the program's case management.
  • Attend pet evaluation appointments and council pet parents through program expectations.
  • Design a personalized Action Plan with program-eligible clients and provide relevant resource referrals to promote self-sufficiency with the goal to reunite clients with their pets.
  • Connect pet-owners in crisis to human and pet-centric resources through our grant funded Real Time Solutions Fund.
  • Provide genuine, caring interactions and support to all program participants while maintaining constant contact with clients in program to ensure weekly and monthly goals are being met.
  • Develop and expand partnerships with community organizations that provide human and pet services. (i.e. homeless shelters, free/low-cost emergency temporary boarding facilities, etc.).
  • Coordinate and attend outreach events in an effort to provide support to underserved and low income communities in need.
  • Build a toolkit of resources, which can be shared with partners throughout the Valley to establish long-term solutions to prevent or decrease pet surrender (hospitals, shelters, nursing facilities, etc.).
  • Be available on call for after working hours and weekend emergency applications and PHAFH pets. This will be a rotation with the manager.
  • Create presentations for external groups and potential partners about the programs.
