Overview:
Our client is a specialized contractor focused on underground utility projects for energy providers throughout most of Wisconsin (excluding the Milwaukee area). They support infrastructure development for electric and gas systems in both residential and commercial applications. With a growing project pipeline, they are seeking an experienced utility designer to help drive energy distribution initiatives across the state.
Position Summary:
This role involves the full lifecycle design and coordination of underground and overhead electric distribution systems. The Technical Designer will be responsible for gathering field data, developing layout plans using engineering inputs, and working with project teams to ensure proper installation of electric infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop distribution layouts for energy systems in both overhead and underground environments
- Conduct field assessments to collect relevant site data
- Translate specifications, sketches, and engineering input into detailed utility layouts
- Enter design details into client-specific software tools and systems
- Prepare and submit permitting applications with local municipalities
- Coordinate with field teams to ensure design implementation aligns with project plans
- Serve as a communication bridge between customers, internal teams, and construction crews
- Review project plans for compliance with standards and client expectations
- Manage change requests and approve necessary updates to plans and specifications
- Support additional design-related tasks as needed
What We're Looking For:
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in the utility sector, ideally with direct exposure to infrastructure design (field experience with strong industry knowledge will also be considered)
- Background in managing multiple design tasks and deadlines simultaneously
- Ability to work independently, as well as collaborate with peers and field personnel
- Familiarity with AutoCAD or other design software is preferred
- This role is based in Wisconsin and primarily supports projects throughout the state
- Remote flexibility may be considered for highly experienced candidates, but in-person availability is expected for most of the week
