What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pastry And Bakery Assistant position at Arepa Zone LLC?
We are looking for a pastry and bakery assistant to join our team at our commissary kitchen located in Fairfax, Virginia. This is a full-time position, with a set schedule from Monday-Friday, with the possibility of some hours on Saturdays or during the busy months. Proficiency in English is not required for this position.
You’ll perform routine kitchen tasks such as setting up workstations and ingredients, so that food can be prepared according to recipes. A great prep cook will be quick and diligent and willing to improve on the job. You will be deft and able to follow instructions as well as all health and safety rules in the kitchen. The ideal candidate will also be able to function in a fast-paced, busy environment as a part of a team.
Responsibilities
- Follow recipes provided by kitchen manager and pastry/bakery lead
- Assists pastry/bakery lead with daily baking and production flow and processes
- Label and stock all ingredients on shelves so they can be organized and easily accessible
- Measure ingredients and follow instructions for bakery and pastry items
- Maintain a clean and orderly kitchen space
- Effectively utilizes measuring instruments, commercial-grade mixers and ovens, and other tools to bake cakes, breads, and other items
- Cook on open flame stove and moves food in/out of industrial ovens
- Ensure all food and other items are stored properly
- Comply with nutrition and sanitation guidelines
- Perform other kitchen duties as assigned
Skills
- Proven experience in bakery and/or pastry (minimum two years preferred)
- Knowledge of health and safety rules in a kitchen
- Manual dexterity able to operate cutting tools and kitchen utensils
- A team player with good communication skills
- Patient with an ability to stay positive under pressure
