POSITION OVERVIEW:
A Custodial Worker position for the Area Agency on Aging of Somerset County involves custodial care of a county government building and additional satellite offices and surrounding areas. The Custodial Worker functions as a lead worker and has the responsibility of cleaning assigned areas. Duties require making routine work decisions independently, although work usually involves established methods and work procedures.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to education and experience that provides the required skill and knowledge is qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:
- One year of experience in custodial work.
- High school diploma
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the ability to learn the materials, methods, and practices used in custodial work. This individual must have the ability to learn the operation and care of vacuum cleaners, scrubbing machines, polishing machines, and other janitorial equipment. This individual must have the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and exercise care in the use of cleaning materials for different types of building surfaces. This individual must possess sufficient physical strength to work at custodial and maintenance tasks. This individual must have the ability to work effectively with others.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
An employee in this classification is responsible for performing assignments that are custodial in nature and are carried out in accordance with established federal, state and local regulations and policies. Specific job duties include the following:
· Daily Duties include but not limited to:
o Take out trash;
o General maintenance such as changing light bulbs, etc.;
o Sweeping and mopping senior centers along with administration building;
o Cleaning restrooms;
o Wiping tables and chairs down and
o Refill all dispensers to normal limits (napkins, soap dispensers, towels, tissues, liners, etc.)
· Weekly Duties include but not limited to:
o Dusting;
o Washing windows;
o Move furniture for necessary meetings, trainings and/or classes; and
o Wash/disinfect garbage containers.
· Monthly Duties include but not limited to:
o Wiping down walls throughout Senior Centers and Administration building;
o Wipe and disinfect restrooms.
· Summer Duties include but not limited to:
o Mowing grass at each of the Senior Centers and Administration building;
o Weed eating at each of the Senior Centers and Administration building; and
o Trim brush at each of the Senior Centers and Administration building, if necessary.
o Pressure washing at each of the Senior Centers and Administration building.
· Winter Duties include but not limited to:
o Snow and Ice removal; and
o Salting of sidewalks.
· Ability to use company provided truck to move appliances, furniture, mowing equipment, etc., between centers.
· Moves furniture and equipment; performs painting and minor maintenance; runs errands as incidental assignments.
· Able to make simple repairs and replacements to buildings and equipment, or reports as needed to Supervisor.
· May require some maintenance duties such as: assist with inoperable vehicles (flat tires, pulling vehicles onto/off of roadways due to weather or accidents)
· Assists with supervision of volunteer maintenance staff.
· Attends all required meetings and trainings.
· Adheres to and promotes maintenance of Agency confidentiality guidelines.
· Adheres to and promotes Agency policies and procedures.
· Operates and maintains Agency vehicles in a safe manner.
· Promotes safety awareness.
· Performs other duties as required.

Pay: $13.75 per hour
