Position Overview

The Master Controls Technician is the subject matter expert for plant automation and controls. This role provides advanced technical support to production, maintenance, and engineering teams, ensuring equipment reliability, uptime, and safety. The ideal candidate will have deep experience with PLCs, robotics, HMI systems, industrial networks, and electrical troubleshooting within a fast-paced automotive environment.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the plant expert for automation and controls, supporting day-to-day operations.
  • Troubleshoot and repair PLCs, HMIs, robotics, servo systems, drives, and industrial networks.
  • Develop, modify, and optimize PLC logic, HMI screens, and control strategies.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to maintenance and controls technicians.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams on new equipment installation, commissioning, and upgrades.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, electrical codes, and plant policies.
  • Lead root cause analysis for recurring controls-related downtime.
  • Maintain and update documentation, schematics, and program backups.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives for equipment performance and reliability.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, or related field (or equivalent technical training/experience).
  • 7 years of experience in industrial controls within automotive or high-volume manufacturing.
  • Expert-level knowledge of PLCs (Allen-Bradley/Siemens preferred), HMIs, and robotics.
  • Strong understanding of VFDs, servo systems, safety circuits, and industrial communication protocols (EtherNet/IP, ProfiNet, DeviceNet, etc.).
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, ladder logic, and mechanical drawings.
  • Experience leading projects and mentoring junior technicians.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $35.00 - $42.00 per hour

Work Location: In person
