Arcosa Brand
Newton, IA Full Time
POSTED ON 10/28/2025
AVAILABLE BEFORE 12/28/2025

Arcosa Wind Towers is a leading manufacturer of heavy-steel wind tower sections serving the renewable energy industry. We are part of Arcosa Inc., a growth-oriented company providing infrastructure-related products and solutions. At Arcosa, we are Building a Sustainable Future through safety, integrity, and innovation.

We provide a work environment that values craftsmanship, teamwork, and continuous improvement. Every employee plays a key role in ensuring that our towers are built with quality, precision, and pride — safely, every day.

Position Summary:

The Fabricator supports Arcosa Wind Towers by designing, building, and repairing the carts, fixtures, jigs, and specialized tools that our manufacturing teams use every day to safely and efficiently build wind towers. This role is critical to maintaining a safe work environment, improving process flow, and ensuring that production teams have high-quality, reliable equipment that meets the demands of large-scale structural steel fabrication.

The ideal candidate is a skilled welder and problem solver with a deep respect for safety, precision, and teamwork. This individual will use their creativity and technical expertise to take an idea or request from concept to completion — whether it’s designing a new tower-section cart, fabricating a lifting fixture, or modifying existing tools to improve ergonomics and safety.

Location: Newton, IA

What you’ll do:

Fabrication and Assembly:

  • Design, fabricate, and assemble carts, racks, stands, fixtures, jigs, and other equipment used in the tower production process.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, sketches, and verbal instructions to build custom equipment to exact specifications.
  • Select appropriate materials (steel plate, tubing, channel, etc.) and cutting/welding methods to meet strength and safety requirements.
  • Use a wide variety of shop equipment, including welders, torches, plasma cutters, drills, saws, and grinders, to produce precision components.
  • Layout and measure parts accurately, checking alignment, fit, and tolerances prior to final weld or assembly.
  • Perform welding to join components; grind, finish, and paint as needed for durability and appearance.
  • Assemble mechanical components such as wheels, bearings, or hydraulic assist mechanisms for mobility or lifting functionality.

Safety and Quality:

  • Ensure all fabricated tools, carts, and fixtures are built and maintained with safety as the top priority.
  • Inspect completed items for structural integrity, stability, and ergonomic safety prior to release for production use.
  • Participate in Job Safety Analysis (JSA) reviews for new or modified equipment and collaborate with EHS personnel to confirm safe operation.
  • Maintain a clean and organized fabrication area, ensuring compliance with all Arcosa safety policies, PPE requirements, and housekeeping standards.
  • Identify and immediately report any unsafe conditions, near misses, or equipment hazards to leadership.
  • Actively contribute to Arcosa’s “Safe Production” culture by setting a positive example and reinforcing safe behaviors among peers.

 Repair, Maintenance, and Continuous Improvement:

  • Perform ongoing maintenance, repair, and modification of production carts and tools to extend their lifespan and reliability.
  • Troubleshoot issues with fixtures or material handling devices used by production teams and provide timely solutions.
  • Assist with the installation, setup, and improvement of fabrication jigs and tooling used in tower section assembly.
  • Partner with Maintenance, Production, and Engineering teams to evaluate needs, develop prototypes, and implement improvements that reduce downtime or risk.
  • Support continuous improvement projects that enhance manufacturing efficiency, material flow, and safety performance.
  • Document all completed fabrication and repair work, maintaining accurate records of materials used, work hours, and safety inspections.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work closely with Plant Leadership, Maintenance Technicians, Welders, and Engineers to translate requests into functional, durable designs.
  • Participate in team meetings to discuss upcoming projects, prioritize fabrication needs, and review improvement opportunities.
  • Provide input on ergonomic enhancements, safe material handling, and efficient layout of shop equipment and tooling.
  • Exhibit strong interpersonal skills — maintaining professionalism, respect, and teamwork in all interactions.
  • Demonstrate flexibility to adjust work priorities based on production demands and critical equipment needs.

What you need:

Required:

  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience in metal fabrication, welding, or a similar industrial trade.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and shop drawings.
