Shift Supervisor, Cleveland, OH (St. Clair)
Arclin is seeking Plant Shift Supervisors for their St. Clair, Cleveland OH Plant. The Plant Shift Supervisor leads all on‑shift production, safety, and compliance activities to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations. This role directs operators, manages shift resources, coordinates with maintenance and quality, and ensures adherence to all safety, environmental, and company standards. The Shift Supervisor is accountable for on‑time production, product quality, asset care, and thorough shift handovers while fostering a culture of safety, operating discipline, and continuous improvement.
Job Responsibilities:
Safety, Health, Environmental & Process Safety
- Champion a zero‑injury culture; enforce safety policies, Life‑Critical rules, and PPE compliance.
- Conduct pre‑job risk assessments, JSAs, LOTO/energy isolation verification, and permit‑to‑work oversight (hot work, confined space, line breaking).
- Lead or support incident/near‑miss reporting, root‑cause analysis, and corrective action follow‑through.
Production
- Direct daily operations across processing lines to meet safety, quality, and throughput targets.
- Monitor batch records, and critical parameters; intervene promptly to maintain process stability.
- Execute and verify start‑ups, shutdowns, product changeovers, and equipment cleanout per approved procedures.
- Manage raw material charges, in‑process checks, and sampling; coordinate with the lab for timely release decisions.
- Optimize run plans, yields, and energy/utilities usage; escalate constraints and recommend adjustments.
People Leadership & Workforce Management
- Lead and develop a team of operators, setting clear expectations and providing on‑the‑spot coaching.
- Assign work, manage reliefs, and ensure adequate coverage for breaks and absences.
- Conduct toolbox talks, shift safety huddles, and targeted refresher training; reinforce procedural discipline.
- Address performance and conduct concerns; recognize strong performance and support operator upskilling.
Maintenance, Reliability & Asset Care
- Prioritize and coordinate maintenance work; validate equipment isolations and handovers.
- Support predictive/preventive maintenance schedules and ensure timely defect elimination for bad actors.
- Ensure housekeeping (5S) and asset care standards are met across operating areas.
Quality Assurance & Continuous Improvement
- Enforce batch/lot traceability, sampling protocols, and documentation accuracy.
- Investigate off‑spec or deviations, contain issues, and implement corrective/preventive actions.
- Maintain change control for process adjustments; participate in trials and new product introductions.
Communication & Shift Handover
- Conduct effective, documented shift handovers (logbook, digital logs) noting equipment status, permits, quality holds, and EHS events.
- Escalate abnormal conditions per the communication protocol.
- Provide concise reports on KPIs, incidents, and production results to Operations/Plant Management.
Compliance, Documentation & Training
- Ensure all operations follow current, approved SOPs and batch records; initiate redlines and MOC when needed.
- Keep operator qualifications up to date; verify training completion for new procedures and equipment.
- Maintain accurate records for audits (ISO, customer, regulatory) and support audit activities.
Required Qualifications
- 5 years of chemical or related process plant experience; 1–3 years in a lead or supervisory capacity preferred.
- Strong knowledge of process operations, permits, and energy isolation/LOTO.
- Proficiency with basic MS Office tools.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams and make sound decisions under pressure.
- Working knowledge of OSHA concepts; understanding of quality systems and basic statistics.
