Applications Technologist I Job Responsibilities
- Maintain a clean and well-organized workspace in a dynamic and fast-paced environment with the ability to efficiently multi-task.
- Convert written and verbal instructions into actions related to new product development in the building construction materials space.
- Conduct laboratory activities including coating development, paper and nonwoven converting, raw material evaluations, and final product assessment through applications testing.
- Demonstrate a desire to work with and understand a wide variety of coating chemistries as well as application technologies.
- Record the results of laboratory experiments and field application testing in an organized and concise manner using an electronic lab notebook system.
- Willingness to complete carpentry related tasks and organize logistics associated with preparing and shipping samples for evaluation at third party laboratories.
- Provide technical support the Applications Engineer as well as the other peers within the Growth and Innovation team.
- Diploma from a secondary technical school / community college (STEM degrees are preferred)
- Experience with both chemical laboratory equipment and wood shop equipment
- 1-3 years of experience working in an industrial laboratory environment is preferred
- Demonstrate ability of being self-starting / independent
- Proven track record of efficient time management skills and attention to detail
- A willingness to learn and an openness to new ideas and concepts
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing
- Hands-on mindset – Enjoys working with materials and equipment, solving practical problems, and seeing tangible results from technical work.
- Curious and detail-oriented – Naturally inquisitive with a keen eye for subtle performance trends and experimental variables.
- Strong communicator – Ability to clearly explain technical concepts to the Growth & Innovation team in written and verbal formats.
- Highly organized – Can efficiently manage lab workflows, testing schedules, logistics, and laboratory documentation simultaneously.
