The House Office Buildings seeks temporary Decorative Plasterers for the upcoming 120th Congressional Moves Transition. This position is located in the Architect of the Capitol (AOC), House Office Buildings, Painting Branch.
Decorative plasterers will serve as journey level Plasterers and perform standard painting tasks when necessary. This requires a 6 day a week schedule, and overtime may be required and in some instances it may be mandatory.

Ability to perform the work of a journey-level decorative plasterer work without more than normal supervision.

Responsibilities:
These positions are temporary for the 120th House Office Buildings Congressional Moves. The job term may end when projects are completed, or funding expires.
This position will be used to fill Night shift Only (9:00 p.m. – 5:30 a.m. Sunday – Thursday).
Shifts will be determined and or change based on Operational Needs of Management. Hours may change depending on Operational Needs of Management
Journeyman level experience is required for the position.
Responsibilities:
Surface Preparation and Plastering Work:
-Performs decorative maintenance and repair on unusual and unique historical plaster walls, ceilings, cornices, and moldings in the House Office Buildings to a paint ready surface. Plasters metal, wood or gypsum lathe, wallboard, and masonry surfaces. Repairs and patches plaster and stucco surfaces.
-Installs lathing and other bases necessary for plastering. Mixes plaster to specified consistency and spreads or sprays over lathe or other base. Smoothens plaster with proper tools; attains uniform thickness, roughens undercoat to bond succeeding coats of plaster; and marks with a brush or other tools to create a decorative texture in finished coats.
-Measures and straightens corners, angles, and wall land ceiling surfaces; prepares corner beading panel moldings, ceiling centers and other plaster fittings; conceals joints and nail holes with wet plaster or sealing compounds and smoothens them using wet brushes and sand paper; and matches existing finishes, including most textures.
-Tapes, blocks & finishes new drywall. Patches holes in existing drywall walls. Sands new & old drywall walls to a paint ready surface.
-Follows OSHA regulations & wears the correct PPE at all times. Attends safety classes and training to reinforce the awareness in safety and hazards.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Please Note: This position is temporary and subject to the project needs of the Agency. If project work continues, however, it could be extended beyond the 13 months-time frame at the sole discretion of the Agency.
