The Medical Assistant/Receptionist plays a dual role in supporting the delivery of exceptional patient care and ensuring smooth practice operations. This position is evenly split between clinical responsibilities as a Medical Assistant and front-desk responsibilities as a Receptionist and will be deployed daily based on practice needs. They are responsible for providing patient support and communication and facilitating an exceptional patient experience to build and reinforce satisfaction, trust and drive organizational loyalty.
Core Responsibilities
Medical Assistant Duties
- Prepares patients for examination using Arches Medical Rooming Guidelines.
- Prepares and administers medications as directed by the Physician; performs basic laboratory tests, EKGs as ordered or indicated and suture removal and dressing changes.
- Performs medical histories, provides instruction to the patient regarding medications and diet, and authorizes prescription refills as directed.
- Greets patients and answers phones
- Prepares, cleans and maintains exam and treatment rooms, as well as supplies and equipment.
- Monitor controls of CLIA waived tests.
Receptionist Duties
- Greet and check in patients and visitors in a professional, welcoming manner
- Answer incoming calls and respond to patient inquiries in a courteous and efficient way
- Performs demographic and insurance validation, informs patient of privacy policies and procedures; obtains copies of all required documents in the EMR
- Collects co-payments, reconciliation charges and outstanding balances upon Check-In
- Assists with administrative tasks, including filing, faxing, and scanning documents
- Collaborate with medical staff to ensure efficient patient flow
- Maintain a clean and organized reception and waiting area
- Performs additional ad hoc duties as assigned to support the needs of the practice
Flexibility Requirements
- The position requires flexibility to cover shifts as either a Medical Assistant or Receptionist, depending on practice needs.
- Occasional travel to other Arches Medical locations within Rhode Island may be required.

Qualifications and Experience:
- Previous experience as a Medical Assistant preferred
- Must have current BLS certification for healthcare providers through American Heart Association or Red Cross
- Must have High School Diploma
- Experience in primary care, family practice, internal medicine, urgent care or ER preferred
- Portuguese speaking preferred
