Location: Portland, ME (Fully On-Site)
Salary: $85,000–$95,000 (DOE)

Position Summary

The Tax Manager will oversee the preparation and review of tax returns, manage multiple client engagements, and provide leadership and support to junior staff. This is a hands-on role that combines technical expertise, client service, and team management. It is ideal for a tax professional seeking a stable, collaborative small-firm environment with opportunities to influence workflows and mentor others.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and prepare individual, corporate, partnership, and fiduciary tax returns
• Manage and oversee multiple tax engagements and ensure timely completion
• Supervise, mentor, and train staff accountants
• Communicate directly with clients to gather information, resolve issues, and offer proactive tax guidance
• Conduct tax research and assist in developing planning strategies
• Support advisory and consulting projects as needed
• Ensure compliance with firm policies and applicable regulations
• Contribute to process improvements and workflow efficiencies

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field required
• CPA license preferred (or in progress)
• Minimum of 5 years of tax experience in public accounting
• Previous experience reviewing tax returns and supervising staff
• Experience with CCH tax software preferred
• Strong technical tax knowledge, accuracy, and attention to detail
• Excellent communication and client service skills
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work effectively in a fully on-site environment
