St. Luke Catholic School

Position Summary

St. Luke Catholic School is seeking a caring, energetic, and faith-filled PreK-3 Teacher who is committed to nurturing the spiritual, academic, social, emotional, and physical development of three-year-old children in a Catholic learning environment. The successful candidate will create a warm, engaging classroom where children develop a love of learning through play-based, hands-on experiences while growing in their understanding of God's love.

The PreK-3 Teacher works collaboratively with administration, colleagues, parents, and support staff to provide a safe, joyful, and developmentally appropriate educational experience that reflects the mission and values of St. Luke Catholic School.

Essential Responsibilities
Catholic Identity

Model and support the mission and values of St. Luke Catholic School.

Foster a classroom environment rooted in Christian values, kindness, respect, and service.

Incorporate age-appropriate prayer, Scripture, and Catholic traditions into the daily routine.

Help students recognize God's presence in everyday life.
Instruction and Curriculum

Plan and implement engaging, developmentally appropriate lessons aligned with the Archdiocesan Early Childhood Curriculum Standards and the philosophy of Catholic education.

Provide opportunities for exploration through play, centers, music, movement, art, STREAM, and sensory experiences.

Foster language development, early literacy, numeracy, social-emotional growth, fine and gross motor skills, and independence.

Differentiate instruction to meet the individual needs of each child.

Utilize observation and ongoing assessment to monitor student growth and guide instruction.
Classroom Environment

Create a nurturing, welcoming, and organized classroom where every child feels safe and valued.

Establish consistent routines and age-appropriate expectations that encourage responsibility and independence.

Maintain a clean, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment.

Ensure the health and safety of all students while following school policies and licensing requirements.
Student Development

Encourage curiosity, creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving.

Support children's emotional regulation, conflict resolution, and positive peer interactions.

Recognize and respond appropriately to the developmental needs of young learners.

Collaborate with families and specialists when additional support is needed.
Communication

Maintain regular, positive communication with parents regarding student progress and classroom activities.

Conduct parent conferences and provide ongoing updates throughout the school year.

Respond promptly and professionally to parent inquiries.

Partner with families to support each child's growth and development.
Collaboration

Work cooperatively with fellow faculty and staff to support school initiatives and events.

Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school activities.

Collaborate with the STREAM teacher, specialists, and support staff to enrich student learning experiences.

Assist with school liturgies, special events, and community-building activities.
Professional Responsibilities

Maintain confidentiality regarding students and families.

Demonstrate professionalism, flexibility, and a positive attitude.

Participate in ongoing professional growth and continuing education.

Maintain required certifications and complete Archdiocesan Safe Environment training.

Requirements

Qualifications
Required

Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field.

Experience working with preschool-aged children.

Knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate instructional practices.

Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Ability to build strong relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.

Commitment to supporting the mission of Catholic education.
Preferred

Connecticut Early Childhood certification or eligibility.

Experience in a Catholic school or faith-based educational setting.

CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
