Catholic Central is growing and so is our need for mission-driven Bus Drivers. The Bus Driver supports our extra-curricular activities by safely transporting our students to extra-curricular events during the day, evening, and, on occasion, weekend. Most activities are located within Michigan. On occasion, a trip may be out of state.
The successful candidate is a compassionate, student-centered professional who builds trusting relationships with students and families, collaborates effectively with faculty, coaches and administrators, and contributes to the safe transportation of students throughout the year.
- Transport students and staff in a safe and timely manner to events.
- Fuel bus as required.
- Keep the bus clean by sweeping floors and cleaning windows.
- Report any accidents, mechanical bus malfunctions or needed repairs to Transportation Leadership.
- Support and enforce all school policies and rules, safety regulations and guidelines.
- Attend to emergencies when necessary.
- Attend safety meetings and other related meetings.
- Maintain required licenses and certifications.
- Take classes as required such as First Aid and CPR.
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
- Valid and unexpired State of Michigan CDL B license with air brake experience and Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements.
- Must have a current State of Michigan Bus Driver Card and DOT medical card.
- Completion of a Michigan school bus driver continuing education class preferred.
- Must be willing to work during the day, evening, or weekends as needed. Flexible hours and available for emergency call-in.
- Exhibits ability to work independently.
- Proven time management skills and ability to consistently meet deadlines. Punctual.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships.
- Strong communications skills (written and verbal); able to communicate information clearly and in a timely fashion.
- Willing to complete required Archdiocese of Detroit training.
- Willing to submit to drug testing, fingerprinting, and a criminal background check.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
- Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods. Occasionally, required to stand, use stairs, and walk.
- Ability to frequently position oneself to bend, twist, or reach (including overhead and forward) .
- Ability to operate, activate, use or feel objects, machinery, tools or controls.
- Ability to detect, determine, perceive, and identify detailed visual information.
- Ability to distinguish color, perceive depth, and adjust focus for close-up and peripheral tasks.
