About the Role:The Store Supervisor plays a key role in the day-to-day operations of The Arc Store, helping to create a welcoming and supportive environment for customers, staff, and the individuals with IDD who work and volunteer with us. This position involves supervising team members, coordinating donation operations, and maintaining high standards of customer service and store organization.
What You'll Do:
- Supervise and support Arc Store staff, provide guidance, and report concerns to Store Management, including documenting disciplinary actions and incidents as needed.
- Assist with opening and closing procedures, including cash balancing and securing the store and property. ($0.50/hour wage adjustment applies after training to close independently up to 5 nights/week)
- Monitor the store floor for shoplifting or unsafe behavior; respond safely and escalate to management or authorities as necessary.
- Oversee receiving and processing donated items, including donation pick-ups, safely moving boxes, bags, and furniture, and denying inappropriate donations.
- Guide Arc clients working at the store with a positive and enthusiastic attitude.
- Operate and train staff on cash registers, handle overrings, refunds, and other register situations.
- Deliver elevated customer service, including resolving disputes, assisting customers, providing information, and scheduling delivery or pick-up of items.
- Sort, research, price, and merchandise store items to maintain an attractive retail environment.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and presentable store and warehouse, promptly addressing unsafe or improper situations.
- Assist with community outreach and events as requested by management.
- Develop general knowledge of Arc services and events.
- Know and adhere to agency policies, including the Employee Handbook, Illness and Injury Prevention Program, and Code of Safe Practices.
- Perform other duties as assigned in the store and the community.
What You'll Bring:
- Provide proof of identity and legal eligibility to work in the United States.
- Complete required screenings at the time of hire, including TB test, drug test, arduous physical, and background check through FBI & DOJ.
- Demonstrate understanding of safe practices in a workplace performing physical labor and take responsibility for personal and team safety.
- Provide respectful, inclusive support for the unique needs of persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), including those involved in the justice system.

Additional Required Supervisory Duties
A $0.50/hour skills premium will be applied after successful completion of the Keyholder/Closer Skills Validation. This includes demonstrating the ability to perform the following duties independently, without direct management or oversight:
- Opening and closing procedures, including directing staff to ensure all tasks are completed
- Accurate and precise cash balancing and preparation of bank deposits; end-of-day financial reporting and resolution of any discrepancies
- Nightly securing of the store, warehouses, and parking lot
- Incident and injury reporting, and initiating the Workers’ Comp process when necessary; independently conducting corrective conversations with employees and reporting all incidents to upper management
- Resolving customer disputes while maintaining a positive and professional demeanor
- Safely handling in-store situations such as shoplifting or unsafe behavior, escalating to authorities as needed
- Independent decision-making and prioritization of store operational responsibilities
- Attending occasional meetings and trainings outside of regular shifts to stay current on policy changes
These responsibilities are required as part of the Supervisor role following the training period. Skills validation will be assessed by Store Management. Successful validation is required within the first 90 days of employment. See Skills Validation document for more details, if applicable.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, perform continuous physical work (including bending, lifting, and stooping), and lift/move items up to 50 lbs, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to travel locally within Butte County to meet with clients and employers.
- Ability to assist clients with mobility or other physical needs in the workplace as required.
- Ability to work across office, retail, and community settings.
- Ability to navigate all areas of The Arc Thrift Store and Administration Offices.
- 4-6 hours of work daily may be performed in a non-climate-controlled warehouse (occasionally 8 hours in a day).
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and perform other physical tasks as needed, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Work environment may include exposure to pet allergens. The Arc maintains a pet-friendly culture, and animals (such as the office cat) may occasionally be present in the workplace. Employees may also encounter pet allergens through donated items or community environments.
