Summary Interviews incoming patient or representative and enters information required for admission into computer by performing the following duties.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Interviews patient or representative to obtain all accurate information needed to perform and bill for services provided.

Obtains signatures needed to provide services and authorizations for treatment.

Records all information accurately in healthcare software system.

Scans insurance cards, personal identification, and any signed documents into the healthcare software.

Verifies eligibility of insurance and obtains signatures on services not covered by insurance (ABNs).

Provides patients with an estimate of their costs and obtains payment on their account.

Posts payments to patient’s accounts.

Notifies department of testing required and directs patient to department.

Answers phone calls and directs communication to departments. Gives general information.

OTHER DUTIES:

Handles all Bankruptcies as required by law.

Files Creditor’s Claim on decease patients who have an estate.

Updates address from mail returns or outside collection agency.

Completes registration on specimens processed in lab.

Balances cash drawer each day.

Works with outside collection agencies to obtain payments.

Processes weekly Bad Debt (including Medicare Bad Debt) and prepares reports for additional outside collection agency.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to have written correspondence or speak effectively to patients.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtracts, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software; Internet software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
