What are the responsibilities and job description for the Life Enrichment Assistant position at ARBOR ACRES UNITED METHODIST RETIREMENT COMMUNITY INC?
The Life Enrichment Assistant is key to the culture of our Memory Care area, assisting with and leading activities and programs throughout the day and ensuring a caring and positive environment for our residents through social, artistic, physical and spiritual connection.
Status Non-Exempt Hours: Mon-Fri, 9 am – 5 pm; rotating weekends
Reports to the Life Enrichment Manager of Arborview (Memory Care).
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead group (small and large) activities in Memory Care.
- Assists with off campus outings with Life Enrichment Coordinator in all areas of care.
- Assists with programming in all levels of care as a part of the team.
- Assists in communicating and coordinating with volunteers and contract instructors.
- Helps organize and present ideas for special events with Life Enrichment Team.
- Assists in delivery of comprehensive programing that offers physical, mental, emotional, social, spiritual, and vocational needs.
- Attends meetings and supports the collection of information for resident assessments.
Additional Duties:
- Assists the nursing staff in providing care to residents using knowledge and techniques for dealing with challenges associated with aging and memory loss.
- Assists residents with personal grooming and dressing.
- Assists residents with the dining experience.
- Communicates reports of residents’ conditions, especially any unusual incidents or changes.
- Assesses clothing for cleaning needs
- Assists with maintaining residents’ environment.
Typical Physical Demands
- Employee must have the ability and knowledge to lift and move residents safely.
- Must be able to lift 30 lbs. of weight, reach and extend hands and arms in any direction, and seize, hold, grip, turn, or otherwise work with hands.
- Be able to bend, stoop, kneel, and bend at the waist.
- Must be able transport residents in a wheelchair between buildings.
- Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to successfully complete the Functional Testing program. This program assists in determining whether applicants/employees are able to safely perform essential job functions.
Experience:
At least one year of experience in supporting activities as a coordinator or assistant and experience in working with memory care.
License and/or Certification Required
Must have a valid NC drivers licenses and be able to drive a 15 passenger bus (will train.)
