Junior High Social Studies Teacher (Grades 6–8)
With Junior High & High School Coaching Duties
Primary Purpose
Provide students in grades 6–8 with engaging instruction in Social Studies that promotes critical thinking, historical understanding, and civic responsibility. In addition to classroom instruction, the teacher will serve as a coach in Aquilla ISD’s athletic program and may assist with transportation of students to extracurricular activities in accordance with district guidelines.
Qualifications
Education / Certification
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
Valid Texas Teaching Certificate with appropriate Social Studies certification for assigned grades
Valid Texas Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger and School Bus Endorsements, or willingness to obtain
Valid Texas coaching certification / eligibility
Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certification (or ability to obtain)
Preferred
Experience teaching middle school Social Studies
Experience coaching multiple sports
Experience driving activity or school buses for student travel
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Instructional Responsibilities
Teach Social Studies courses in grades 6–8, aligned with Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).
Develop and implement lesson plans that support student engagement, inquiry, and higher-level thinking.
Use a variety of instructional strategies, including discussion, collaborative learning, and project-based activities.
Monitor and assess student progress through formative and summative assessments.
Maintain accurate grade records and provide timely feedback to students and parents.
Participate in campus and district curriculum planning and professional development.
Integrate literacy and writing skills within Social Studies instruction.
