Role Description

The Supplier Quality Engineer will serve as the primary liaison between Services, Engineering, Procurement, and external suppliers to drive supplier quality performance and accountability across the organization. Leads the identification and resolution of vendor-related quality issues in alignment with engineering requirements and the Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ) program. Oversees supplier performance management, corrective action processes, supplier qualification and development, and supports the implementation of a formal Supplier Quality Program. Partners with Continuous Improvement to strengthen processes, implement preventive actions, and enhance overall supplier quality outcomes.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Partner with the Services Group and COPQ program to identify, track, and resolve supplier-related quality issues, including determination of vendor liability. 
  •  Serve as the primary liaison between Engineering, Procurement, and suppliers to ensure accurate communication of mechanical, electrical, and functional requirements. 
  • Support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Supplier Quality Program, including standards, procedures, and performance metrics. 
  •  Lead supplier corrective action processes, including issuance, tracking, and validation of responses to ensure effective root cause resolution. 
  •  Evaluate supplier performance and drive continuous improvement in quality, reliability, and delivery through direct engagement with vendors. 
  • Assist in the qualification and vetting of new suppliers through capability assessments, risk evaluations, and quality system reviews. 
  •  Coordinate with shop and operations teams to define inspection, testing requirements, and acceptance criteria for incoming materials and components. 
  • Conduct supplier audits and on-site evaluations to assess manufacturing processes, quality controls, and overall capability. 
  • Collaborate with the CI Coordinator and cross-functional teams to develop and execute improvement initiatives related to supplier quality and internal processes. 
  • Analyze supplier quality data and field/warranty feedback to identify trends, drive corrective actions, and improve communication of requirements across the organization.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude with the ability to interpret and apply engineering drawings and specifications (mechanical and electrical prints required). 
  • Understanding of supplier quality processes, including corrective action systems and root cause analysis methodologies. 
  • Familiarity with Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ) principles and data-driven decision making. 
  • Strong cross-functional communication skills with the ability to translate technical requirements to both internal teams and external suppliers. 
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and drive accountability across internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data analysis tools. 
  • Experience in high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environments strongly preferred.


Qualifications

  • Experience with supplier quality programs and supplier development initiatives. 
  •  Knowledge of corrective action processes (e.g., root cause analysis, CAPA, 8D, etc.). 
  •  Familiarity with Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ) tracking and reporting. 
  •  Experience working directly with suppliers in a quality, engineering, or manufacturing capacity.
  • Background in Continuous Improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, etc.).


Salary Range: $67,746.00 To $80,000.00 Annually
