Job Overview:

APTIM is seeking a Junior Geologist/Environmental Scientist/Engineer to conduct environmental site investigations and remedial actions. This position requires the ability to conduct field work, desktop analysis and reporting, occasional overnight travel, and application of knowledge and skills to a wide range of standard and nonstandard situations.

 

Duties may include but is not limited to: installation of environmental soil borings and monitoring wells, collection and documentation of soil and groundwater samples for laboratory analysis, Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, environmental permitting, stormwater compliance inspections and reporting, completion of environmental compliance inspection and support activities, and ability to gain working knowledge of Federal, State, and local environmental regulations. If applying as an engineer based on education, responsibilities may also include remedial design and remedial action construction assignments under the supervision of a Project Engineer.

 

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Provides technical support to clients in a variety of work scopes including but not limited to: environmental site characterization, monitoring, permitting, regulatory reporting, Phase I and Phase II due diligence, and municipal and commercial construction.
  • Collects and interprets soil, groundwater, surface water, and air sample analytical data.
  • Executes field work, maintains project schedule and budgetary goals, and supervises contractors.
  • Conducts work independently or as part of a project team and can adjust to rapidly changing site conditions or client requirements.
  • Adheres to established health and safety policies and procedures and executes work in a safe and conscientious manner.
  • Conducts Phase I Environmental Site Assessments and Phase II Environmental Site Investigations in accordance with ASTM Standards and client requirements.
  • Conducts site inspections for NPDES permit and erosion control plan compliance. Identifies pollution sources. Maps project sites and drainage areas using GPS/GIS.
  • Supports environmental permitting and permit compliance projects.
  • Drafts technical documents for regulatory agencies and private clients.
  • Understands technical concepts, evaluation results, plans, reports, and ensures conformance to applicable technical standards as well as company policies and procedures.
  • Manages schedule and balances multiple priorities to meet project targets and deadlines.
  • Utilizes best practices and knowledge of internal and external business systems to improve products or services as a collaborative member of the APTIM team.
  • Duties may also include overlap with APTIM’s industrial hygiene group including inspections, assessment and sampling for asbestos, lead-based paint and other material concerns.
  • If applying as an engineer based on education, responsibilities may also include remedial design and remedial action construction assignments under the supervision of a Project Engineer.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Engineering, Biology, Hydrology, or related field required.
  • 0-5 years of experience participating in various scopes associated with environmental site assessment and technical report preparation
  • Must have a valid Driver's License.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to travel as needed with occasional overnight stays.
  • Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather.
  • Must pass an OSHA HAZWOPER physical and respirator function test
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, scientific computer programs
  • The following certifications are a plus: 40-hour OSHA-HAZWOPER training, OSHA 10-Hour, Florida Stormwater and Erosion and Sediment Control Inspector, Licensed Asbestos Inspector, Indoor Air Quality Training.

As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay range for this position is $25 to $32 hourly. Compensation depends on several factors including: experience, education, key skills, geographic location of the position, client requirements, external market competitiveness, and internal equity among other employees within APTIM.
