As a Payroll Specialist, you’ll play a critical role in ensuring accurate and timely payroll for our growing organization while enjoying opportunities for professional development and advancement.

What you will do:
- Deliver Accuracy: Ensure every employee is paid correctly and on time by processing and auditing payroll across multiple states.
- Protect Compliance: Keep AprilAire aligned with federal, state, and local wage laws, and lead updates when regulations change.
- Drive Transparency: Reconcile payroll data and produce timely reports that empower leadership decisions.
- Solve Problems: Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies quickly, partnering with HR, Finance, and Operations.
- Champion Data Integrity: Validate labor data and maintain accurate employee records to support operational excellence.
- Strengthen Controls: Provide documentation for audits and internal reviews, safeguarding AprilAire’s compliance.
- Enable Insights: Analyze payroll trends to improve accuracy and efficiency while supporting leadership reporting.
- Innovate Systems: Test and implement system enhancements and new pay codes to keep payroll processes cutting-edge.
- Protect Confidentiality: Maintain secure payroll records and handle sensitive information with the highest integrity.
- Elevate Service: Respond to employee payroll inquiries with professionalism and clarity, building trust across the organization.
- Lead Improvements: Recommend and implement process enhancements that boost efficiency and compliance.
- Be a Change Agent: Serve as a subject matter expert during new technology rollouts and regulatory changes.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or Associate's degree and a minimum of 2 years of payroll experience. In lieu of a degree, a minimum 4 years of experience in payroll
- Comprehensive understanding of payroll processes, including multi-state regulations, compliance requirements, and timekeeping systems.
- Familiarity with federal, state, and local wage and hour laws, and the ability to interpret and apply complex regulations.
- Knowledge of payroll tax filings, W-2 processing, reporting requirements, and internal controls.
- Proficiency in payroll/HRIS systems and intermediate Excel functions (e.g., VLOOKUP, pivot tables).
- Strong analytical skills for reconciling payroll data, identifying discrepancies, and troubleshooting issues promptly.
- High attention to detail and accuracy in processing payroll and maintaining records.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills to meet deadlines and collaborate effectively with HR, Finance, and Operations.
- Customer service mindset to address employee inquiries professionally and accurately.
- Ability to test and implement system enhancements, support process improvements, and adapt to new technologies.
