System Safety Engineer

An aerospace client is looking for a System Safety Engineer with Active Secret Clearance who will review product systems, associated support equipment and facilities, functional specifications and operations, and establishes safety requirements for assigned systems.

Location: Melbourne, FL 32904 (Onsite)

Position: System Safety Engineer with Active Secret Clearance

Pay Rate: $36/hr. - $47.55/hr. on W2 (DOE)

Duration: 12 months or longer

Schedule: 08:00-17:00 - 9/80 Schedule (Work 9 hour days with every other Friday off)

Responsibilities:

• Reviews product systems associated support equipment and facilities, functional specifications and operations, and establishes safety requirements for assigned systems.
• Independently analyzes and recommends safety criteria in system design, equipment and procedures to control or eliminate hazards.
• Develops safety documents as required to support customer and test/operational range requirements.
• Performs audits of operational areas and reports effectiveness of system safety program.
• Participates in accident investigations involving damage to products or related facilities and assists in identification of causes and corrective actions.
• Evaluates the interrelationship of system safety requirements and other aspects of concept design and development requirements to ensure the most cost-effective program.
• Evaluate system designs, support equipment, and facilities to ensure they meet applicable safety specifications and standards.
• Develop, review, and approve safety documents, including system safety analyses, reports, and documentation to support customer and certification requirements.
• Apply knowledge of safety engineering principles and standards such as MIL-STD-882, MIL-HDBK-516, and other relevant industry practices.
• Work with other engineering disciplines, such as systems, software, and test, to ensure safety-critical functions are verified.
• Identify technical issues and propose solutions to resolve them, ensuring safety is integrated throughout the development process.
• Develop and maintain safety requirements and participate in meetings with internal and external stakeholders to discuss them.

Requirements:

• U.S. Citizenship required.
• An active U.S. DoD Secret security clearance is a fundamental requirement.
• Strong working knowledge of standards like MIL-STD-882 is critical, along with other industry or military standards such as DO-178B/C, DO-254, and ARP-4761.
• Experience performing various hazard analyses, such as Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA) and Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA), is essential.
• The ability to develop safety documentation to meet customer and program requirements is a key requirement.
• Familiarity with tools for requirements management (like DOORS) or other system safety tools is often preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with military standards like MIL-STD-882E
• Proficiency in safety analysis techniques (e.g., Fault Tree Analysis)
• Experience with specific domains like aircraft, missile, or software safety.
• A strong knowledge of related standards like ARP-4761 and certifications like CSP/ASP are also preferred.
