Capabilities include a range of physical properties of materials in the solid and molten state including mechanical, rheological, thermal, pvT, viscoelastic, impact, fatigue, and creep.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate laboratory testing equipment under supervision.
- Perform routine mechanical testing such as tensile, compression, flexural, shear, impact, fatigue, creep, etc.
- Follow detailed ASTM and ISO testing procedures exactly as written.
- Monitor tests while recording observations and instrument readings.
- Collect raw test data and enter results into laboratory software.
- Photograph and document specimens before and after testing.
- Verify that test equipment is calibrated and functioning properly.
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of laboratory equipment.
- Maintain accurate laboratory notebooks and electronic records.
- Assist engineers and senior technicians with research and customer projects.
- Package and return or dispose of tested specimens according to laboratory procedures.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment.
- Follow ISO 17025 quality procedures and laboratory documentation requirements.
- Adhere to laboratory safety protocols and proper use of PPE.
- Occasionally assist with sample preparation for multiple materials including plastics, composites, metals, rubber, foams, ceramics, and adhesives
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office, especially Excel)
- Ability to accurately collect, record, and organize test data
- Experience working in a manufacturing, quality, or testing environment
- Experience using calipers, micrometers, gauges, or other precision measuring tools is preferred
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- Ability to lift and carry approximately 25–50 pounds
- Manual dexterity to prepare specimens and operate laboratory equipment
- Ability to occasionally bend, reach, kneel, or climb as needed
