SUMMARY: The Site Services Technician role is responsible for performing highly diversified duties to install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain process and facility equipment in wastewater plants. This work is completed according to safety, predictive and productive maintenance systems and processes to support the achievement of the company’s business goals and objectives. This is a mobile position covering the service areas of New York City Boroughs and Long Island. The Site Services Technician reports directly to the Director of Site Services - NSU's Hillsborough home office.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform general preventative and corrective maintenance on treatment plant equipment such as valve replacement, pump replacement, piping repairs, blower and compressor services.
  • Diagnose issues with pumps, mixers, blowers, valves, and conveyors. Identify causes of vibration, overheating, seal failures, and abnormal noise. Inspect and troubleshoot piping blockages, leaks, and mechanical wear.
  • Troubleshoot motors, motor starters, VFDs, relays, and electrical panels. Use multimeters and test equipment to verify voltage, current, and continuity. Identify wiring faults, overloads, and control circuit issues.
  • Diagnose issues with sensors (level, flow, pressure, pH, DO). Troubleshoot PLC inputs/outputs and communication faults. Verify calibration and signal integrity for process instruments.
  • Identify and troubleshoot operations and materials, implement resolutions, and report any defects or unusual situations to the appropriate supervision.
  • Operate hand and power tools of all types: mechanical hoists, core drill, hammer drill, and a variety of other equipment and instruments.
  • Assist with site preparation for various repair projects.
  • Provide detailed notes within NSU’s Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) system on hours worked, parts and materials used, and additional notes on work performed.
  • Assist other craft workers when needed in completion of work orders.
  • Work conscientiously and be aware of all safety hazards, ensure safety of others, and follow all NSU’s and client safety procedures.
  • Available for 24-hour alarm response and participate in an on-call rotation.
  • Effectively communicate the progress of repairs in a professional manner to employers, clients, visitors, or regulatory personnel.
  • Ability to read, write, and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
  • Ability to work independently as required.
  • Ability to travel within the Tri-State Area or other service areas as needed with occasional overnight stays for projects spanning more than one day when it makes economic sense.
  • Maintain receipts and accurate records for fuel, mileage, timesheets, expenses, etc.
  • Ensure adherence to current company safety training and standards at all times.
  • Maintain a positive and professional attitude with teammates, clients, regulatory agencies, etc.
  • Operate a motor vehicle in compliance with all NSU vehicle safety policies and applicable roadway laws.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

  • Occasionally work in high, precarious places
  • Occasionally/ work around fumes, airborne particles, or toxic chemicals
  • Frequently exposed to outside weather conditions
  • Occasionally exposed to extreme heat or cold (non-weather)
  • Occasionally exposed to bloodborne and airborne pathogens or infectious materials
  • Frequently exposed to loud noise (examples: metal can manufacturing, large earth-moving equipment)
  • Frequently exposed to very loud noise (example: jack hammer work)

  • Company vehicle, e.g. pickup truck or van
  • Various hand and power tools
  • Computer and/or tablet and other office productivity machinery, such as a copy machine, scanner, and computer printer
  • Electrical troubleshooting equipment
  • Personal Protective Equipment when required
  • Autocrane
