Schedule: Hybrid – 3 Days In Office / 2 Days Remote

The Opportunity

We are partnering with an established engineering and consulting firm seeking a Highway Design Project Engineer to join its growing transportation engineering team in Delaware.

This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career Civil Engineer who wants to build their career in highway, roadway, and transportation design while working alongside experienced Project Engineers and Project Managers.


The engineer will contribute to transportation infrastructure projects throughout Delaware and gain hands-on experience across the design and delivery lifecycle.

This position follows a hybrid schedule and requires employees to work in the office three days per week. Candidates may be based out of either the Dover, DE or New Castle, DE office.


What You’ll Do

  • Support the design and development of highway, roadway, and transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Perform engineering calculations and design tasks under the guidance of senior engineers and project managers.
  • Assist with roadway geometry, grading, drainage/stormwater, pavement design, traffic control, and related transportation design activities.
  • Prepare engineering plans, drawings, specifications, construction documents, and cost estimates.
  • Use MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer (ORD), 3D modeling, and related engineering/design software.
  • Assist with ensuring designs comply with applicable state and federal transportation standards, regulations, and design criteria.
  • Coordinate with engineers, project managers, clients, stakeholders, and regulatory agencies throughout project delivery.
  • Review plans and project documentation for accuracy, quality, and constructability.
  • Help identify design challenges and work with senior team members to develop practical engineering solutions.
  • Build technical expertise in highway and transportation engineering while progressing toward a Professional Engineer (PE) license.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited program.
  • 0–3 years of professional engineering experience.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification/license required.
  • Interest in developing a career in highway, roadway, or transportation engineering.
  • Familiarity with transportation/highway design principles and engineering standards.
  • Exposure to MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer (ORD), Civil 3D, or similar design software is preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a collaborative, multidisciplinary engineering team.
  • Experience with or exposure to state Department of Transportation (DOT) projects is a plus, particularly Delaware transportation projects.
  • Must be able to work in-office three days per week in either Dover, DE or New Castle, DE.
