What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mechanical Engineer position at Applicantz?

We are hiring for a 12-month 100% onsite contract role in Tualatin, OR. Regular shift M-F 8 to 5 PM

Top skills:

  • Proficient in 3D CAD tools such as Siemens NX and CREO
  • Skills in MATLAB and Simulink
  • Solid foundation in mechanical design principles, materials, and manufacturing processes

As a Mechanical Engineer 3, you will contribute directly to the design, development, and delivery of next-generation wet processing equipment for advanced semiconductor manufacturing. Your work will support critical NPI programs, shaping mechanical designs that meet performance, reliability, cost, and manufacturability goals. In this role, you will translate subsystem requirements into robust mechanical solutions, working closely with Systems, Process, Electrical, Controls, and Manufacturing Engineering teams. Your contributions will help reduce development risk, accelerate schedules, and enable high-quality products to reach production on time. This is an execution-focused role with meaningful ownership, where strong fundamentals and sound engineering judgment make a visible impact on product success.

What you'll do:

  • Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies, and subsystems for complex semiconductor manufacturing equipment.
  • Translate subsystem-level requirements into detailed mechanical designs, layouts, and drawings.
  • Create and maintain 3D CAD models, detailed drawings, and engineering documentation in accordance with engineering standards.
  • Perform engineering analysis (e.g., tolerance analysis, thermal-mechanical considerations, structural integrity) to support design decisions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Systems, Process, Electrical, Controls, Software, and Manufacturing Engineering to ensure successful subsystem integration.
  • Support NPI phase-gate activities (Pre-DR, DDR, CDR, FDR) by delivering assigned mechanical design milestones on schedule.
  • Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and failure analysis, contributing to DFMEA and corrective action efforts.
  • Work with Manufacturing Engineering and Supply Chain teams to ensure designs are manufacturable, serviceable, and cost-effective.
  • Support prototype build, system integration, debug, and validation activities.
  • Contribute to sustaining engineering efforts and field issue resolution as needed.

Who we're looking for

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field with 6 years of experience; or an advanced degree with 2 years of previous professional experience; or equivalent experience.
  • Proficient in 3D CAD tools such as Siemens NX and CREO.
  • Solid foundation in mechanical design principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret system requirements, drawings, and interface documentation.
  • Effective problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work productively in a collaborative, fast-paced NPI environment.
  • Strong hands-on mechanical skills, with the ability to effectively use basic hand tools and diagnostic equipment (such as a DVM, calipers, dial indicators, etc.).
  • This is a graduate-eligible role.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the semiconductor industry is a plus.
  • Experience in project management, or problem-solving while managing time and multiple priorities.
  • Knowledge of DFx principles (reliability, manufacturability, serviceability, safety).
  • Interest in continuous learning and professional development.
