We are partnered with a leading heavy civil and transportation contractor in New York City that is seeking an experienced Safety Manager to support a growing portfolio of complex infrastructure and transit projects throughout the five boroughs.
This contractor has a long-standing reputation for delivering critical transportation, utility, and civil infrastructure projects for public agencies throughout the region. The successful candidate will play a key role in promoting a strong safety culture across active construction sites while ensuring compliance with all client, regulatory, and company safety requirements.
Position Overview
The Safety Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing, and enforcing project safety programs across multiple heavy civil and transit construction projects. This individual will work closely with project leadership, field personnel, subcontractors, and agency representatives to ensure all work is performed safely and in compliance with applicable regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Safety Leadership
- Promote and maintain a proactive safety culture across all project sites.
- Conduct routine jobsite inspections, audits, and safety assessments.
- Lead safety meetings, toolbox talks, and training initiatives.
- Investigate incidents, near misses, and safety concerns while implementing corrective actions.
Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, NYC DOB, MTA, and project-specific safety requirements.
- Maintain all required safety documentation, reports, and records.
- Support project teams during agency audits and safety reviews.
- Monitor subcontractor compliance with project safety standards.
Project Support
- Partner with Project Managers, Superintendents, and field teams to identify and mitigate risks.
- Assist in developing site-specific safety plans, activity hazard analyses, and emergency response procedures.
- Review work plans and construction activities to ensure safe execution.
- Participate in preconstruction planning and risk assessments.
Training & Development
- Deliver safety orientations for employees and subcontractors.
- Provide ongoing coaching and mentoring to field personnel.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to safety performance and awareness.
Qualifications
- 5 years of construction safety experience within heavy civil, transportation, utility, or infrastructure construction.
- Previous experience supporting MTA, NYCT, LIRR, Metro-North, or other major transit agency projects is strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, construction safety standards, and hazard mitigation practices.
- Experience working in active rail, transit, roadway, or urban infrastructure environments.
- Ability to communicate effectively with field personnel, project teams, and agency representatives.
Preferred Certifications
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction
- CHST, CSP, ASP, or equivalent safety certification preferred
- NYC SST certifications
- First Aid / CPR Certification

Salary : $135,000 - $165,000
